Hi, I've Samsung WW95T534CAE 9kg machine which is terrible at rinsing (2 years old). First I though there was an issue with draining pump, but Samsung tech changed the pump and it is still rinsing badly. Now I made some research and thanks to Andy's article I noticed that this is much bigger issue and seems to be a common problem with modern machines. So my question is, is there any machine that does the rinsing well? I bought "Which" permissions and found a few LG machines that were rinsing well, but those machines are old, so I no one in Finland is selling them anymore. Does anyone have any recommendation or another website which shows rinsing results as well? I fo…

What would you say is the safest, a washing machine with a rubber belt between wash motor and spider pulley, or a Direct Drive motor at the back of the wash drum? I would say if the drum stopped turning (say it collapsed due to broken bearings, or just got seized) that on a belt driven drum that eventually the motor spindle would just burn through the black rubber belt , or the belt would just slip off? - but on a direct drive motor the resistance would just overheat and possibly act like an element and possibly cause a fire? - especially if it didn't have any kind of protection on the motor board to cut power to the direct drive motor? - this is one of the reasons …

Hi all Interested to hear the views of those with auto dosing washing machines... Are they perfect? Or do you have pain points with them? If you had the choice, would you buy again? Look forward to hearing your views.

Hi, Andy. All the washing machines I have worked on have normally had their wash motors underneath the machine attached to the outer drum tub - but i have noticed on some throughout the years that some have had the wash motor at the top of the machine tub. This must make it a dream for changing carbon brushes or the motor itself, just pop the lid off the washing machine and bob's your uncle! so why did the manufacturers go back to / or switch to putting them under the drum nowadays? - Does the placement of the motor affect spin keeping the drum more stable when spinning or weight on shock absorbers is less on top of the drum if underneath , or maybe they put it on t…

Hi all, no fault to report , just water temperature up for discussion during wash cycle. washing machine 2020 Series 5 Samsung 9kg front loader: wash cycle: mixed 40'C Time: 1hr 30mins Weight: around 1/4 to half full drum options: 'intense' 3 rinses 1000rpm spin speed Cold fill only washing machine. Incoming cold water mains temperature: 8.8'c Time to reach temperature: over half an hour Maximum Temperature achieved (40'c wash) : 38.0'c time washing at around 38'c around 5 minutes before first rinse cycle so there we have it - machine set to 40'c , and the washing machine only spent around 5 minutes actually washing at a temp of 3…

Need a replacement machine and this models no longer available. Similar Indesit models at the price point seems to have shortcomings - spin speed, programmes, cycle times etc etc. Any thoughts on other replacement candidates? with 1400 spin, adjustable front feet, reasonably short programmes (rather than 3-4 hrs), decent energy rating, can do duvets, mixed, woollens, delicates, 7kg load at least, digital display preferred if poss. thanks!

First off, we will be running the dryer with the door open. Just want to head off the inevitable "you can't put s dryer in a closed cupboard" comments. We have a cupboard that is 610mmx1800mmx680mm and would like to put a washer/dryer in there. We've been looking around and although a lot of machines state up front that they are 600mm deep, upon further investigation it turns out that this is usually the footprint, and the total depth is a lot closer to 650mm, which I've been lead to believe is a bit too close to the back of the cupboard to allow air flow. So, I'm looking for washer dryer towers that have a bit less depth. Around 8kg capacity on each, and ener…

Hello. I don't know if you're an expert on washing as well as machine repair, but I guess like a lot (most?) people the only thing I do with my washing is sort colours (black, dark colours, pale colours, whites, or bedding or towels. Never quite sure what to do with white clothes with patterns on 😂 I fill up the drawer with powder (hard water area) and second with conditioner except for towels or whites (they advise white vinegar). l do everything apart from bedding and towels on 40 for synthetics, taking the worst wet off the wettest clothes by drying them in a half full machine for about 40 minutes, whilst hanging the rest round the flat making it look like a refugee c…

My great Miele W3033 washer has terminally failed (needing a modern Miele replacement), while my trusty T8002 dryer of the same era keeps going. Due to space limitations, I must stack my dryer on my washer. Unfortunately, the new washer ( WXD160) is of a different dimension than my dryer; same width but deeper). The Miele stacking kit for use with the new washer will not allow the old dryer to be secured. Any suggestions for how to modify something so that I can continue to use my old dryer with my new washer? I really don’t want to buy a new dryer.

Who'd have thought there was a potential health risk from using a cold fill only washing machine and abandoning the old hot water tap. Although it's likely to be rare, there is a potential Legionnaires' disease risk. Read my new article for full information - Potential health risks from washing machine’s old hot water tap

I currently have an integrated washing Machine which I wanted to replace for an integrated washer dryer. After looking around I noticed that most have a width of 60cm or just under which is standard. After measuring the space I have it seems that it is a little under 60cm and is more like 595mm due to a dish washer being next to it and taking up a little extra room. Has anyone got any suggestions or aware of any brands that sell integrated washer dryers which come up a little smaller than 595mm.

Hiya Andy. If you were to advise someone what cycle to use for Silk , what wash cycle would you choose? Our washing machine has a Delicates cycle and a Wool cycle but I cannot see a 'Handwash' cycle or a cycle for silk items. The wife put her silk blouses on cottons 30'c 400 spin and its snagged threads, got holes in them, and ruined her silk tops , now she is worried to put any more silky tops like that in the machine now. thanks

Hello Andy, Have you heard of these self clean drain pumps on washing machines - I dont know which Hotpoint it was that I have had in the past but I am pretty sure one of the 'features' in its marketing blurb was that it had an auto-clean drain pump (presumably you did not need to empty out the drain filter regularly and that the pump cleaned itself?) Just wondering do you know how that would have worked and wonder why not all washing machines then come these days with self cleaning drain pumps then?

So every washing machine I’ve had I’ve basically killed, I do 3 loads of washing a day on average. Current machine came with 11 year warranty and it’s had a new drawer (fair enough) and now will be on its second drum replacement plus other stuff (I don’t know washing machine internals) and it’s just turned 3 years old. this machine was just over 1k and hoped it would last longer but no lol I’ve checked I’m not overfilling, using too much detergent etc etc but I think I’m just wearing them out fast. so looking at a top loader in the hope it will last me longer, issue is hot fill. I’ve read instructions but it says to have hot water at 49c but my hot water tank…

What is your take on this Andy. If you end up tumble drying stuff anyway do you still need a really hot wash to kill the germs and bacteria - would they not get pulverized in the tumble drier anyway the temp that runs at (what temp is it something like 120'c or something inside a tumble dryer when its drying?)

Why are Dyson missing from the washing machine market these days? I mean logically is the company not missing out on that area? _ I am not expecting them to bring out an out of this world washing machine like their last one with the 2 opposite revolving drum but just a plain ordinary mid range one that just gets the job done at around the 500 600 quid mark.. or even if they got another quality manufacturer to make it for them and they just re-badged it with their name on it I reckon it would be a pretty good seller ... so i wonder why they just have not got any washing machines out at all now these days?

Hello, So I have finally decided to treat myself and get a new decent washing machine. Have narrowed down a search to these 3: AEG Soft Water L9FEC966R LG TrueSteam FH4G1BCS2 Bosch i-Dos 6 WAU28PH9GB (Siemens IQ 500 is same alternative) My understanding is that AEG is the best quality but also the most expensive. LG and Bosch are similar price and leaning towards Bosch. Ultimately I am going to make a decision based on which has best price online. Not quite sure about all those new features that new machines present and how much of a gimmic those might be. Any recommendations welcome. Any other washing machine I am missing to compare? Thanks in ad…

I wonder if anyone does (and if not why don't they in this day and age?) a washing machine that in the wash cycle will 'filter' the water during the wash cycle? - I mean when you come to think of it for 20minutes or so your washing is washing in dirty water all that time. I would imagine that all you need is a recirculating pump (which a lot of machines have these days anyway) and then take the dirty water away from the bottom of the drum and then through some kind of filter or filtration system to trap dirt and grit out of the water, and then through the recirculation pump and then pump the clean water (or be it clean water with detergent back in through the top of…

Its just occurred to me or I think a good idea if washing machines came as standard with a built in spirit level either an electronic one on the LED display or a physical one behind the porthole door . It is so important to get the level of the washing machine level on installation so as to make sure the washing machine is at its quietest especially when spinning and I know it will only be used in installing and then most probably not used after that but it would still be good. And if its a top notched machine with electronic LED / Dot matrix display and internet / wifi connected (or connected to the manufacturers support servers) if people phoned up support and said tha…

My minds been working overtime again - here is a pic of our Hotpoint 8kg washing machine drum , look at the front of the drum and see all that blank park with no holes in it: 2 questions really if anyone has any answers (or Guesses LOL) - 1st question is I wonder why in manufacturing did they leave that front bit blank without any holes in it? and Number2 if some clothes were spinning in that area where there is no holes how does the water extract from the clothes to the outer plastic tub and then drain out from the pump if there are no holes in that part of the drum? - because the way I thought clothes spun was that at high speed the clothes are thrown out…

Hi Andy. Have you heard of the rubber drive belt from motor spindle to drum pulley making noises when they are brand new? This new Samsung (well was new in February) washing machine does not have direct drive but it has got a quiet inverter motor fitted. - If I open up the washing machine door and spin the drum by the paddles slowly by hand I can hear 'creaking' noise , Could it be a possibility that the belt is so brand new its making a noise and that when its 'worn in' (a couple of years lol) it will be quieter ? I turn the drum of our old Hotpoint washing machine drum and cannot hear the belt 'creaking' on that - but that was bought in 2012 so its getting …

hi all this is a question for other members (oh and of course for you Andy as well if you want to comment or have a view on it) - we have 2 washing machines at the moment a brand new Samsung series 5+ and an older Hotpoint bought in 2012 - both have inverter motors and I would say not the top flagship models but one under the top models. Spin: Hotpoint washer will faff around when it comes to it . If it detects an unbalanced load there will be no way the machine will go into a spin at all , it will just go backwards and forwards for about 15 minutes or whatever the spin time is tumbling the clothes trying to get the clothes balanced in the drum - if it cannot then…

Hi I would like to clean mould off some clothes, so I plan to use vinegar 1:1 ratio. Normally, when I put washing liquid in I take the lid off the washing liquid(brand of washing liquid I use is ariel), and into the lid of the ariel then I put the ariel bottle lid into the front of the machine along with the clothes. Or sometimes i squeeze some liquid onto the clothes. Then I start the washing cycle cold wash. I don't know how much water the washing machine uses though.. I wonder if maybe it uses loads so a 1:1 ratio water-vinegar isn't practical/advisable for a washing machine. I wonder if maybe a 1:1 water-vinegar ratio is only advisable for a wet …

I have 2 washing machines at the moment a Samsung series 5 9kg and a 10 years old Hotpoint 8Kg and both have brushless induction motors. The hotpoint machine is ultra quiet when washing, you just hear the clothes sloshing round in the drum . - its been like that from new , so its not the fact that the motor has 'worn in' and got quieter over time. The Samsung one sort of like 'whirrs' as its revolving and no water in the drum . the Samsung washing machine has a feature that weighs the clothes at the beginning of every wash , with no water in the drum just clothes going around dry in the drum for about 10 seconds or so , and weight the clothes and adjusts the ti…
