Hi Andy . I think you said on occasion before that you never really got into repairing Tumble Dryers (didn't you?) and i know this is just a washing machine forum but I just wanted to get your angle on this. I have tested our new Beko Tumble dryer with a multimeter and the cabinet is earthed , which is good but I checked the drum itself (which is metal) and that isnt earthed. - well this would explain why the odd few times i have been getting a static electrical shock when removing dried items from the drum , especially if in with the drying there are synthetic items. apart from the aspect of getting static shocks, how safe are these tumble dryers that there is a …

Hi, I have a 7 year old Smeg WMI12C7. The last wash I did caused a really loud racket when on the final spin cycle plus I could smell a lot of burning rubber. I know it's impossible to diagnose without looking but wondered if anyone had any ideas of what is the cause and prices of fix? Or if it was worth repairing or gettng a new one? Thanks in advance.

We have an AEG L7WEG851R washer/dryer that was delivered 6th August 2017. In the last week, the machine has become extremely noisy when spinning, and the drum feels very rough when turning by hand. We called AEG and a repairer came out this afternoon. One feel of the drum and he said it's the bearing that will need replacing - a two hour job that they will do under warranty. We're now waiting for them to order the part and book in a day to come and replace it. My concern is, why on earth has the bearing gone on this machine after little over a year? We forked out extra for an AEG, hoping that it would serve us for a bit longer than our previous budget Ho…

As the title says, I have an ISE W288 eco Washing Machine. It is five years old and as ISE has folded and no longer has it free parts and labour guarantee. The other day I put a wash on, it got to the rinse cycle and then stopped. No power, No lights, nothing. I have checked the fuse and the plug socket and have opened up the machine and put a circuit tester across the mains input and power is getting as far as the control module. The on/off button does not respond, so the machine is dead. Am I right in thinking that the problem could actually be the control module rather than the door mech or heater element. The machine is in good condition, is kept clean and h…

My new article is up on Whitegoodshelp is for anyone who has taken out the pump filter to clean it or remove an obstruction only to now find it's leaking. It's surprising how often it seems to happen - pump filter leaking after removing it to clean

Hi, I've got a Miele 4144, about 12 years old. Since I moved house, it's been on a suspended floor. Despite levelling, it vibrates a lot on spin, and you can feel through the floor. I had an engineer check it whilst still in warranty, and he said the machine was fine, it was just the floor. We recently tried a rubber mat to quieten the vibrations - this had the effect of making the machine rock more, and very recently it developed a knock on spin (ran fine on a low 600rpm spin). I'm a competent foyer at many things, so was up for taking a look, and have stripped down. I've ordered replacement shock absorbers and will install later. I'm also going t…

If I place a finger on the drum, I can move it back and forth very easily. When the machine is on a spin, it makes a loud knocking noise. I have checked the weight is tightly attached, the springs are ok and attached as are the shock absorbers underneath. Can anyone point me in the direction of the potential issue and solution? It's a Hotpoint washing machine. Thanks.

I have a Bosch WKD28351GB which is 4 years old, I've only ever used it for washing but tried to use it for (gentle) drying for the first time. The machine ran for about 5 minutes and then tripped the RCD, resetting the RCD was not possible without unplugging the machine. After leaving it unplugged for an hour or so, I tried again and it did not trip the RCD. So I tried running the dryer again but the same happened i.e. after 5 minutes of running the RCD tripped. After some googling I read about the mains filter capacitor and since taking the lid off I did notice that this was the area which got quite warm whilst the lid was on. I have 20 years experi…

Hello, I get the "wash motor fault" error message on my machine. The error points to the motor being faulty? Does the motor need replacing or could it be something else? The machine is 7 years old and is used on average once a week. I do now live in a hard water area. Thanks Sal

Power on washer, push cycle and everything seems normal. Once you push start, defaults to draining. Pause button will not work or any other button other than power off. Main PCB and mems sensor have been replaced. This is a topload WA50K8600AV/AA

I had cause to remove the dispenser housing on my Miele WT945 in order to repair a crack, all went well with the repair, and so I thought with the reassembly. On testing the machine on a wash cycle it filled ok with no problems, it went through the wash cycle again no problems. Then on the first drain cycle the water poured out from the top left rear of the machine, I don't know what you might call the part in question or why the water gushed out of it, so I have added a couple of pictures. The offending part is the white cap in the second picture, the 3rd picture is the cap disconnected, there's no seal or anything just a small green ball. Any ideas would …

Hi, Please could I have some advice as to whether this is something we can investigate ourselves? I have read all your pages on noisy machines and the forum advice and it doesn't sound like it's a bearings problem. The loud tapping/knocking sound happens when the machine builds up to speed and usually the noise maintains at this speed. This happens when the machine displays the wash cycle light and the rinse cycle light. The noise stops after a couple of minutes even when the spin is going slightly faster and doesn't happen at all when slowing. It doesn't happen at the start of the spin cycle either although does after 10 seconds of spinning. It sounds quite metall…

Hello, I currently have a 4 year old Beko WMI 71641 washing machine. Last week, during the drain cycle - water was spraying into the machine via the detergent drawer - which is obviously not what it should be doing while on drain. I was advised that it is more than likely the main front board.. so I found a company online who harvest parts from machines and they managed to find me a new front facia with board included and posted it out to me. This weekend we fitted the new facia and board and the immediately put the washing machine onto spin/drain setting and it worked! - no more water coming in. Problem solved.. or so i thought.. Last nigh…

Hi. Would be very grateful for advice on following problem with our integrated AEG washer dryer which is just over 4 years old. I’ve gone through your videos but am still not sure what is causing the noise. The machine has developed a knocking sound which you can hear when you rotate the drum by hand - it creates a single or double knock for each whole revolution of the drum. It’s louder when you turn the drum anti-clockwise. It is muffled during the wash cycle but then becomes very loud during the spin cycle. There is no rumbling sound and there’s no leakage or brown staining in machine. The machine works perfectly fine and cleans and drys clothes. When moving the drum …

I've just finished a new washing machine help article on Whitegoodshelp. I recently had to repair my son's washing machine. It was making a strange tapping, rattling sound when the drum revolved. It was much louder on the spin cycle. At first I was puzzled and was unsure what the noise could be. When I pulled out the washing machine and took off the back panel I could see that the drum pulley was loose. It was still securely fastened with the pulley bolt, but the centre of the pulley had badly worn. Full story with videos and sound can be found here rattling tapping and grinding noise on spin
