I bought a Zanussi washing machine. Well a year and a quarter later, that Zanussi's bearings decided that it was going to wear out, with a loud screeching noise heard during spin. So on the 7th Jan I booked a fixed-price repair with Zanussi. Big mistake - they came out today (nearly two weeks later) merely to diagnose the issue, THEN order parts (new drum, motor and bearing assembly). Next booking - 31st Jan. So angry! I can't have no washing machine for nearly a month, especially with kids in the house. Asked for a refund. Will only get back £69.99 because the engineer came out. I've now sent a complaint to them. It's literally quicker to replace…

Whirlpool has issued a recall notice on some of its models of washing machines due to a potential safety concern. It affects certain models of Hotpoint and Indesit washing machines made between October 2014 and 2018 and it is feared more than 11,000 machines in UK & Ireland may be impacted. A flaw with the door-locking system may lead them to overheat and potentially catch fire. Whirpool launched an urgent recall of certain models of tumble dryers over fire safety fears in July of this year. If you think your washing machine might be affected, you can check by calling 0800 316 1442 or by visiting https://washingmachinerecall.whirlpool.co.uk He…

In March 2012, I purchased a new Samsung washing machine for £450 which was sold to me with a 5 year parts and labour warranty. All been fine for first 2 and half years but now is need of a repair. So I contacted Curry's who initially transferred me to Samsung who refused to entertain as they said the warranty had not been registered. So I then contacted Currys who I had purchased the appliance from, they confirmed that they will honour the 5 year warranty, but then I was pushed from pillar to post, and about 5 phone calls later, each lasting an hour over a week of chasing I eventually got to talk to Currys Out of warranty customer service team. Only to be informed …

Hello I have a Hoover VHD65D washer dryer that I bought from a large well known electrical store. I have had the machine for approx 1 year and in this time it has developed the same fault ( drier fails to heat up) 3 times. I have contacted Hoover and arranged for the repairs under the guarantee which they have done, however, I am unhappy as the fault has developed again and would like a replaced. Today I have said this in an email and they replied saying, see below Thank you for your e-mail regarding repairs to your Hoover washing machine, model number not specified, but logged on our database as a VHW65D, the content of which is duly noted. We are sorry to…

Hi, five week old machine flooded. On checking inner drum, obvious upward dents. On checking under the machine, two holes can be seen in the plastic outer drum. Now having read several posts all pre Consumer Rights Act 2015, the obvious blame seems to rest on a coin. My understanding on the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is that the onus of proof now lies with the retailer, so if on inspection no coin is found then they should be held liable for replacement. Any thoughts? Besides all of this I would also argue that any machine only in use for five weeks should be able to withstand a coin. Any thoughts?

Hi All, When I bought a (integrated) washer dryer 30 months ago, I chose to shell out extra (£600) and buy what I thaught was a reputable brand - AEG. Several weeks ago the machine has started to make grinding sounds during the spin cycle and having spoken to 2 independent engineers over the phone, they both suspect it is the bearings. The model appears to have a welded drum assembly which means the entire drum will need to be replaced. Parts alone will cost £190... and by the time I have paid labour, I suspect the final bill will be closer to £300... There are only 3 people in my household. However, with a 5 year old, the machine is probably in use everyda…

Hi there, just looking for some advice really. Bought a brand new hotpoint washing machine from Very, 2 months in and it breaks down showing the error code F05. An engineer was sent, and said we need a new power module/motor. I understand that appliances such as this that break down within the first 6 months are deemed to have been faulty at sale, so we contacted Very and Hotpoint and both did not want to take responsibility. Hotpoint later said we may qualify for a replacement machine, but in the mean time they wanted to fix the problem. We agreed to this, only to be told it will be 5 weeks till they could fix it! Today was the day off the fix. Engineer came, r…

Hi, I purchased a washing machine from currys online on the 5th Nov. It broke down within 2 weeks and an engineer was sent out on the 22 December. The parts were ordered and hotpoint expected them on the 9th jan. One of the parts is out of stock with Hotpoint in Italy and they can't give me a date of when they will get it in again. In the 1st week of January I went down to my local currys to speak to their know-how team and they have washed their hands off it now because a hotpoint engineer came out. Could you please tell me where I stand. I'm sure you can imagine a family of 5 and no washing machine from12/13th December. Many thanks Rosemary

Hi. After several call outs and repairs on washer, (loud banging, jumping about and travelling across floor), 18 months later hoover replaced seal etc and turned washer on and water poured out. After having the machine in bits he found a large hole at the bottom of the plastic casing, this he said was coin damage, and not covered for repair. Have checked out your forum and can find no dints or damage in the metal drum, no coins have been found. Having checked out reviews (after purchase!!) This model appears to have problems!! Any advice appreciated.

Hi, Just a quick question about the parts on a Miele w870, my mother has had this machine since 2002 she has had a few parts fitted under warranty and last year in May spent £309.89 on parts needed and the tech man said the machine is in very good working order, well the machine has now gone wrong again and one of the parts that were fitted is the problem, I had a quick look on the internet as I didn't know too much about the machine, found out that Miele warranty is 10 years but after that only warrant new parts for one year, now if the part from new has lasted 10 years and the replacement part only lasts a year, this just doesn't make sense to me, I know the machine cos…

Moved into a new built shared ownership flat on 17th March 2012. Kitchen fully fitted with new appliances. The BEKO washing machine stopped whilst on a washing programme, all of the lights on the panel went out as if the electric supply had been cut off. Water remained in the drum.It would not reset as per the manual instructions and will not turn on. When I contacted BEKO customer services to ask for a repair under guarantee they refused to inform their local agent as I did not have a receipt for the washer and I did not know who had supplied the machine.I assume it was a firm subcontracted by the developer.I found their customer service team most unhelpful.I had regist…

Hi all, I have an Indesit IWC 61655 washing machine which was purchased at the end of July of 2010 but was kept in storage until the middle of August while renovation works was going on in my house. I bought the machine from Comet, along with other household appliances from Comet and 365Electrical, before the renovation works were completed. The machine was used for around 3 months before the first issue manifested itself. The machine would go through its cycle and when it came to the spin cycle it would randomly trip the breaker in my fuse box for that particular power ring. I contacted the electricians (the whole house had been completely rewired to current re…

My ISE machine is less than one year old when we paid £899.00 for it with a 10 year guarantee. We bought it based on the steel drum and the hype on their website saying it was bomb proof, used volvo truck bearings and it's paddles could catch coins etc and blah blah blah. Last week an object of some kind punctured a hole through the METAL outer drum and caused a leak. The object has not been found yet as it does not appear to have come right through into the casing. There is nothing rattling around inside either or found in the drain pump catcher/filter. BIG mystery. In any case ISE are not going to pay for the repair so I thought that it should not be not too bad as it's…

My partner had an old Hotpoint washing machine for about 10yrs, kept paying a monthly warranty fee (she could have probably purchased 3 new washing machines over that period of time, but thats another story). Her washing machine finally died last year. After endless visits by numerous engineers it was finally deemed beyond repair. Yippee.....we thought !! After much rangling she received a brand spanking new Hotpoint washing machine May last year (2011). The model is a Hotpoint WMF540. The machine has been working fine, until this week. The main program dial has broken. It's hasn't broken off or snapped in two, but it is broken inside. It is now stuck on on…

Hi, I purchased washing machine from a large retail company 9 weeks ago, mid wash it decided to die, phoned retailer and they said they couldnt come until 7 days later, on the seventh day a engineer turned up stripped the machine down and said the pcb had failed and he would be back to fit it in 10 days, as we are a family of 4 adults which one is a funeral director, one is a manager of a coffee shop one working on a building site and the other at school, so we all need lots of clean clothes. Is it me or does this seem unreasonable? i would also like to know am I within my right to ask for a new machine (sprouting off sales of goods act 1974 or by saying it obviously had …

Hiya everyone!Hope you can help me. Over a week ago our washing machine (Haier HW50-1002W) broke down...huge puddle on the floor. The ingeneer came round and said he found a hole size of may hand on the outer drum and that he is sure only something like a coin can cause it and we are not cover by guarantee in this case. It seems really strange to me since the machine was half loaded with 3 small cotton rugs i use for the bathroom and kitchen floor ..but assuming that it really was a coin, shoud not the guy actually prove and find the coin before refusing a repacement?

It seems upon fairly lengthy research that I might well be the only unlucky person that has had a problem...sorry continued problems with an ISE machine. The background: My wife and I bought an ISE 5 about 3 years ago now after a problem with our old washing machine that needed bearings and a drum replacement (costly and pretty much beyond economic repair). Our local engineer (I will withold names but I do not have a problem with them at all) is an ISE agent and recommended one to us as at the time we had 2 children (now 3) and as such generated a fair amount of washing. It was promoted by it's ease of repair and warranty. We bit the bullet and ordered one and to start…

Unfortunately there are increasing reports of Hoover or Candy washing machines that are physically exploding on high spin creating a potential danger and a consumer issue. I've written an article on the main Washerhelp site - Washing Machines Exploding: What's Going On?

Last night my partner and I were watching tv when we heard a massive bang, we went into the kitchen to see the washing machine was in its spin cycle and the door glass was cracked straight down the middle with smaller cracks coming off the main one. We stopped the wash and I carefully opened the door to see on the edge of the slant of glass just before it goes flat a chip of glass missing and the crack seems to have started from there. The worry I have now is how did this happen and will it be covered by the warrantee? The machine is just over 5 months old. I've left all the clothes in there as they are - all that’s in there is a towel few pairs of trousers and underwear…

I have a Servis M6804W washing machine. Within 12 months, it had a fault with the LCD, and the engineer said something about it being a common electrical fault. In fact, browsing the internet, it seems this is a recurring one with this model. 2 and a bit years later, it's dead again. So, I phone the number on my machine, but unbeknown to me, they went into administration a while back; and Domestic And General deal with enquiries. Or should that be, D&G give you no help at all and try to peddle one of their insurance policies via Direct Debit! The man even answered the phone, "Hello, Servis"!! I said I had a recurring fault with my machine, I'm…

Hi All I was wondering if somebody might be able to offer me some advice. We bought a Whirlpool AWO/R 4205 from B & Q in August 2009 when we purchased our new kitchen. Within two months the washing machine developed a fault. I contacted Whirlpool and they sent out an engineer who completely replaced the whole drum. 18 months later the washing machine is still working, but it's making a noise like there is a problem with the drum or bearings. Unfortunately I can't locate the original receipt. Do I have any rights with whirlpool? The machine was obviously faulty from the beginning and I feel reluctant to shell out to have it repaired when it's less than two years ol…

I bought a reconditioned washing mashing for £180 from The appliance repair centre in Colchester . After 5 months the inner drum came loose, as I was given a 6 month guarantee by the proprietor I returned it only to have him tell me that he would not honour it as the parts were too expensive. I tried to argue that is why I am asking for the guarantee to be honoured but he said that I could argue it in court and for me to leave his shop. So now I have a machine that doesn't work, a guarantee that is useless and a growing pile of dirty washing! is there anything I can do about this? Obviously it would cost too much to take him to the county court and I'm sure he was aware o…

Hi, an excellent resource, thanx Washerhelp:-) Our machine is coming up for 6 months old and is waiting it's third engineer visit. Not that it's faulty as such, it washes and dries well, is quiet, dead easy to use. All in all a good machine. However, I believe it has a major design fault (well, it maybe a 'feature', who knows?) in that it has no user servicable filters and we need to have an engineer come in a clean them out. One of the filters is built right inside the machine and involves the heating elements to be removed in order to get access to the thing. This is a complete waste of our time and theirs and also means we go without having a usuable machine for a…

Wonder if you can help. My washer failed recently (6 months the wrong side of a 5 yr warranty!). It is manufactured by a company that purports to sell 'high quality' machines that are built to last. The manufacturer implies that the machine failed because of the failure to 'maintain' the machine. This resulted in sludge build up and corrosion, leading to failure of the drum support spider. The machine is wrecked as the drum tried to scour its way out of the plastic outer drum housing. I have maintained the machine strictly in accordance with the manufacturers provided users manual but the manufacturer now claims that I should also have carried out maintenance boil was…

I'm praying there is someone out there who will read this and know what to do about this problem........ Just bought a brand new washing machine which was delivered yesterday afternoon. The transport bolts were removed, and it was connected up to the power and water. Before the first wash the machine must run a cycle on empty and the instructions were followed to the letter - putting 1 litre water in the drum and a half measure of detergent in feeder, set to the required programme and pressed Start. Nothing happens. I tested the water pressure which is fine, checked all the connections numerous times, and still nothing. The shop where we bought the appliance weren't int…
