I have a new Hotpoint washing machine, the instructions show an Eco 40-60 cycle, which it says is the most efficient. I don’t understand this as it takes up to 3 hours, considerably longer than 40’ on my old machine. Following advice to use the Rapid 30’ cycle, I discover that this only does an 800 spin - not enough for my laundry - so I have to follow up with a Spin & Drain cycle to use a 1400 spin. This is wasteful and inconvenient. Any advice would be appreciated.

On certain washing machine cycles (I notice it does this on 60c and more cotton washes , but not on 40c cotton wash) after its done its wash just before it drains (to go to intermittent drain spin) before rinse cycle the drum will fill up with cold water and just revolve the drum a couple of times and then empty . Just curious as i dont see it doing that on every wash cycle programme and wonder what the problem would be with just emptying the water out of the drum at a lovely hot temperature out of the drum? If it is to cool down 60c (or more temp) before it empties into drain, would it not be better to have some nice hot soapy water go down the drains to keep them c…

how do you successfully wash 1 item in a 9kg drum washing machine so it can slop around the drum as the drum revolves. I would have thought the paddles of the drum would 'lift' / scoop up the garment to the top of the drum and let it fall back to the bottom of the drum (hence why they call them also drum lifters) - but all that seems to happen most of the time is that the drum revolves and the paddles just go under the garment (which in this instance is a padded outdoor jacket) and the jacket just rides over the paddles suspended in the water. - apart from putting in more clothes at the same time what more can a person do?

I wonder can someone tell me if the diameter of holes in the wash drum determine how much water is left in clothes after a spin or not. I have recently got a samsung washing machine to replace or old Hotpoint washing machine - both do 1400rpm maximum speed . - Its just that when I do a cycle in the Samsung washer on 1400rpm spin speed the clothes to me dont feel like they come out as 'dry' as if they were spun in the Hotpoint washer at 1400rpm , both spun at 1400rpm at the same length of time. More things noticed: After spinning with the Hotpoint the clothes seem to be 'stuck' to the sides of the drum as well as 'dry'er' - in the samsung they are not stuck to…

Hi I have samsung 9kg auto dose ww90t534dan. I have downloaded and read and repeatedly referred back to manual. My question refers to why certain cycles (specifically outdoor) amongst others don't self dispense liquid, it doesn't even sense load. It only fills drum via powder drawer despite liquid compartment being filled and pushed in. Other cycles sense load and fill drum through liquid drawer. Does anyone here know of programme list that use only liquid/powder drawer. I am aware that short/quick washes are only available with certain types of detergent but these are not the cycles I'm selecting.

I read one of your answers to a post Andy about not having a washing machine on overnight or left unattended if you go out and it got me thinking what components of a washing machine can cause fires especially with a lot of washing machines these days with a 24hr timer built into the front facia for that very reason to avail of putting on the washing machine overnight to avail of cheap rate electricity and have the clothes finished washing by the time you wake up. In fact our new Samsung washer has wi-fi where you can start and stop a wash when you are out of the house as one of its features ... so actively could encourage people to start a wash whilst out of the house ,…

Hi Andy - not a repair question just a curious one but what does this pipe do / what is it for / how does it work on the Samsung washing machine can you tell me please? It goes from the Soap drawer housing and across to the top of the drum plastic outer tub - I have not seen it on Hotpoint washing machines. And its not the big diameter normal hose that sends downs the water and detergent , that is at the back of the Soap dispenser drawer as normal to the tub . also, you don't hear too much these days of the 'Jet Rinse System' (was that a Zanussi design back in the day) did it not take off or wasn't effective? here is a pic of the hose:

I wonder why in this day and age manufacturers are still using noisy pumps on their washing machines (especially noisy/growl'y at the end when there is no more water to pump out) - I have a 10 year old Dishwasher that pumps out the water into the drain lovely and quiet and smoothly. I understand that dishwashers have a different type of pump (a recirculating pump) but why could they not fit the same kind of pump to washing machines too? or even at least on high end / mid range washing machines at least (have the likes of Miele etc got quieter pumps?) - would there really be a huge difference in manufacturing costs of fitting a dishwasher type pump to a washing machine…

Hi I’m looking at replacing my Bosch washer-dryer, the the currently available equivalent Bosch model is more than I want to pay (looks like the price of Bosch may have gone up since I bought mine). I’ve narrowed my search to an AEG, LG or Zanussi. The LG is more expensive and has a few extra features, which brand fares better terms of reliability and performance, longevity and over all “robustness”? An old family friend who was in the trade always swore by Zanussi. TYIA Neil

Hi, I've just bought a Bosch WDU28560GB Washer Dryer and need help and advice on what wash program, settings, laundry liquid and quantities are best for maintaining soft bath towels. I live in Oxfordshire, where the water is pretty "hard" I am my wife's carer and she hates the way the towels are now, very hard and coarse. Having purchased replacement towels, I don't want to repeat my past mistakes so any tips would be most welcome. Thank you

Hi. Thanks for any help. I cannot see how to make my new BOSCH WAX32GH1GB perform just a spin cycle inisolation (sometimes a load is slightly wetter than I would like it after washing). There is no specific rinse/spin setting shown on the dials and the instructions manual is rather baffling. Kay

Hello, I am interested to learn whether the plastic tubs used on lower model Miele machines have proved to be just as durable and reliable as the stainless steel tubs used on most of their models. Just trying to figure whether its worth the extra (around £100) to get a model with the SS tub? Thanks Mark

Hi We currently have a 17 year old Zanussi FJD1466W. We like it because every aspect of the programme can be overridden. By this I mean we can choose fabric, temperature, spin speed, wash choice (e.g. pre wash/outdoor sport/quick) and option (super rinse or AA 40). I have started to look for a replacement in case the machine dies but whatever key word I use for a search fails to identify a machine which has this facility. We do not want everything pre-programmed so you cannot override whichever aspect suits - we can select ANY combination of the five choices. Can anyone suggest anything please. We need a 9kg machine with spin speed 1400. Thanks in advance.

Hi all, I have a Beko WMB101433LW that I wash my clothes in using a prog that lasts 1.50 and uses 40 degrees, 800 spin. However, to dry my clothes out properly before putting on the line or tumble dryer, I find that I have to put them on a rinse and spin at 1400 spin to dry them sufficently? I know I am doing something wrong.....but what else can I do? 1400 spin is the correct speed to dry them?

We have a washing machine plumbed into (cold water only) a non-mains supply from a low header tank in our flat. An old 1bar minimum machine (Bosch) used to repeatedly time-out on fills. Could be prodded to carry on from where it had left off, but pretty annoying. We eventually (when that broke) replaced that with an AEG which supposedly worked down to 0.5bar and that did seem to be much better behaved. But recently it too started misbehaving. Timeouts on fills, but also the conditioner drawer compartment didn't seem to be getting any water.... instead of dripping through the roof above the conditioner, the water just seemed to be dripping down at the back of …

Hello members, I have bit unusual question. I have Smeg washing machine (I know is made by Beko) with a steam refresh program and auxiliary function (the steam is added at beginning of the was cycle) I like to hack the chip from PCB to add equal sequence at the end of those cycles (after spinning) where steam auxiliary function are selected. Is anyone have any experience with this and can direct me where to start please. Or it is any way to get inside programs and modify them? I will be grateful for any tips.

Hi Andy. what are you like on Tumble Driers - had much experience with them? I bought a new Beko DTGV8000 Vented Tumble dryer from currys a couple of weeks ago and its replacing our Beko Condenser which we have had for about 5 years or so. Wanted to get a vented one this time because the room the condenser dryer was in got so hot and damp , so now at least the hot air and moisture now at least is is at least being carried outside through the wall vent now. I dont find it brilliant on 'extra dry' like the last one. OK they come out dry, but not really bone dry, a bit damp sometimes and a couple of times had to put the stuff back in. - I have noticed, and got to won…

Hi, looking for some consumer advice. We're on the lookout for a new washer dryer. We have suspended wooden floors, and when our current washer dryer spins, it feels like we're in the middle of an earthquake wherever we are on the ground floor of the house. We've tried putting a piece of old work surface under it, vibration absorber pads, everything. So we're now looking for a machine that absorbs the vibrations as much as possible, and ideally makes as little noise as possible. About a 9kg drum, and has to be a washer dryer. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance for your help.

We are looking at getting a laminate floor fitted in our kitchen. I have heard stories good and bad about washing machines damaging them when you get them in and out from under the work top. I'd love to hear some experiences please
