Hi, I have a Hoover Optima OPH 616 washing machine since January this year as a replacement from an appliance policy. Just tonight whilst begining to start a rince cycle, the machine made noises almost as if a sparkler (firework) was lit...... that it the only best description I could give. I am baffled as to what it is relating to. I don't think it is the bearings. I know I can contact Domestic & General but I really want to have some idea as to what it could be. Has anyone else had this type of noise. Thank you in advance.

I have an old Electra AWM900A Eco (front loading) machine given to us by friends. In fairness they warned us that it used to make a noise although otherwise functional. Basically when any weight is put into drum I will make a very nasty scraping noise on rotation. Experimenting with turning with hand pushing inside drum revealed it does so at bottom of drum (and when machine upside down The inverted top side). Having read thru your trouble shooter I examined the sump hole for bra straps etc-nothing obstructing. The spiders are all intact and outer/inner drums not split. I can only assume that it may be an issue with the agitator? Certainly feels almost like a positi…

Hi Can anyone help. My hotpoint Aquarius starts, the door is locked but the 'door locked' light does not come on, water goes into the detergent drawer but then the crease hold button and on off button flashes and no water goes into drum and it doesn't turn. It makes a noise for about 5 mins as if water is going in but it doesn't. It then stops making a noise and the buttons still flash. Any help will be appreciated thanks Sian x

I noticed the other day that my machine is not taking warm water into the main right hand compartment, it's taking just cold water into the left one. I automatically assumed the program mechanism. However, I removed the hot water pipe to the machine, and the pressure is high. Reconnected the main hose, disconnected rubber hose from inlet valve to the soap compartment. Switched on and water drizzled out. No pressure at all. So, I am now confused, thinking of changing the inlet valve which is obviously faulty. I have no idea if the machine will take cold if the warm is not working properly? I don't think it's the program mechanism, it's a mechanical type which would be a hu…

Hi The timer selector switch on my washing machine seems to have 'slipped'? I can not select all wash programmes using the selector. For example, I selected the 40min wash; the wash went onto the 90 degree wash which takes 3 hours instead. There is also water collecting in the conditioning compartment in the washing powder tray after I have used the machine.(Although does not seem to be every use) I am unsure whether to buy a new machine or have this one repaired as I don't know which is the cheaper option. Hi all, We are having a bit of a problem with our washer, it is a VHD842 and is only a couple of years old. I'm not entirely familiar with washers (i'm writing this on behalf of my parents) so please do excuse any terminology that may be incorrect, ok so the problem is as follows: The washing machines spins at the start and takes in the washing powder, but when it is time to take in the softener, it doesn't. The softer remains in the drawer. We've tried it numerous times and the same problem occurs. We have tried various time limits e.g half an hour and an hour, but the problem persists. Another few issues we have noticed also are that the washer now no longer spin dri…

Hi, i can hold the spindle of the motor still with my fingers when its on a wash or rinse. The machine is about five years old but has been treated well. So far ive checked the brushes which are so new the face still hasn't worn completely in and cleaned the commutator but it made no difference. Online reading suggests the motor is generally worn but i can't understand how a motor can go just go weak at low speed. While spinning i can hear it back off as it reaches full speed. Im sure it would go at low speed if there was slightly more energy from the speed controller. Thanks if you can help.

HI! I have a Siemens Siwamat XL 1440 front loading washer. I put in a single bed blanket and started the cycle. Part way thru - before spin - the machine stopped and I cannot get a digital read-out to appear so I can't start the machine. The door opens and I removed the blanket which was soaked. there is still water in the drum. I unplugged the washer and re-plugged - no change. I am wondering if there is a re-set button or if there is a fuze - where is it? I have checked the house circuits and all are on. - no breaker has flipped. So, what to do? thanks Jode

I have an Indesit IWC 6165, the machine won't start on any wash cycle. When you power it on all the lights light up then the start light flashes slowly. This continues until you press the start button then the wash cycle chosen light comes on and after about 5 seconds the door locked light starts flashing. The door is not locked and can be opened even though the red light is flashing. Any ideas? I have powered it down for about 15 minutes and retried it.

Help please ? I have just acquired from my daughter (who has just installed a built under washer/dryer in a newly re fitted kitchen) an approximately 1 year old LG WD-12331 AD washer dryer. Having scoured the manual, it appears the dryer only works on the synthetic and cotton wash cycles. This is not a problem, but what seems to be a serious omission is the ability to use the dryer, without going through an entire wash cycle. Several times, because I have wanted to dry clothes a bit more than on an automatic programme, I have ended up going through an entire wash cycle a second time - really annoying and time consuming also, not at all enviromentally friendly! Does any…

Hi, My washing machine (a direct drive) has started to make an unusual noise. It is just over 5 years old and have had no problems with it at apart from smelling damp occasionally. Yesterday noticed that it was making a noise which I can only describe as 'crackling'. The noise happens when it is on the wash cycle was stopping when the drum moved - as though it was only making this noise as it moved through its program but it is everytime the drum stops or not filling or spinning. I decided to do some exclusion tests, it happens on 'rinse only' so assume its not the heater, doesn't happen on drain, but does happen on a 'cold' wash. I have checked the drain/filter an…

Hi there I have purchased an LG F14220TDS washing machine which is now about 6 months old. I use mainly the 30 minute quick was for everything and it used to work perfectly. But now, it keeps stopping on 6 minutes whilst still full of bubbles. I have to turn the machine off and then on again to cancel the programme and then put it on a 22 minutes rinse and spin cycle to remove the bubbles and continue with the wash, which obviously defeats the object of a 22 minute wash. I called an engineer to look at the machine and he said it was because I wasn't putting enough washing in the machine, therefore it wasn't realising it had a 'load'. I told him that I did not agree …

Hi all, I have a problem with my Candy Smart CTDF 1007 Washing Machine. This machine was purchased about 2 months ago by my landlord. Unfortunately it did NOT come with an instruction manual. When I first had the machine, I found it difficult to start it properly, but after some messing around, I finally had the machine going. Since then, I've gone away on vacation, and have completely forgotten how to start the machine again. I've tried every combination to get a load to start, but nothing seems to be happening. Throw that in with the fact that all the forums and help pages I've found seem to be in Italian, Slovenian or Hungarian, and I'm in a pickle. So my question to …

I heard a little rattle yesterday but just thought it was possibly not sitting on the floor properly. Went in and had a look and noticed the machine had stopped 2 mins before it had completed it's cycle and the door lock light was repeatedly flashing. There is no error codes, the drum spins fine and there is no blockages, so I took the rubber seal off to have a look at the door interlock system and noticed it wasn't attached with 2 screws from the front of the system, just looked like 2 plastic stumps. I was hoping someone could tell me if I can replace this and how it would be attached, or if the interlock system is even the problem at all? Any advice would be grea…

After looking a various posts etc i think it might be the bearings but i dont know. It would appear the drum has more movement front to back than normal. Ive checked the bushes for the shocks and they seem fine. Can any one give me any advice please? Cars i can do but am stuck when it comes to washing machines lol also is it any easy fix? many thanks

Hi all, I am currently renting a flat with an Indesit washing machine. It wouldn't drain water so I called the landlady and she sent round a repair man. We have been living in the flat for 1 year and the washing machine seems to be 5+ years old. When the repair man came round he found 2/3 coins in the filter with 1/2 small screws. He took those out and then looked at the pump and said that needed repairing. It was fixed.... no more problems. However, the landlady is saying the coins caused the problem and that as it was 'negligence' we had to pay the cost. My question is did the pump just break over the years or was it the coins that caused it? Any help would be g…

Hi. I've read through all the FAQs and reasons for a machine not working; very interesting and informative, but I couldn't find my answers there. My machine was recently moved as our kitchen is being redesigned, and since then (yesterday) when it was plumbed back in, the cycle begins but only goes so far then stops. I've included a picture of the the program dial (guess it's pretty old: no digital readout!). I usually start a normal wash at H and it spins around ending I think on K, not entirely sure. But now it's stopping at J. I tried moving it on slightly by hand, and it did spin again, but soon stopped. It stops with the sound of a motor ticking over, as if it ca…

My machine will operate for so long, then it seems when its time to start a fast spin it will have a few attempts then lock out. It has a flashing red light and two green flashing lights (I think its 2 & 4) I have the back opened just now and the belt seems ok and pretty tight. Any suggestions folks?? I repair boilers for a living so I am used to working on appliances and testing etc... Ally

I have a Siemens washing machine that has worked perfectly since we acquired it when we moved into our property a couple of years ago. Today my wife was doing the same wash we always do when she noticed that the drum hadn't drained properly at the end of a wash and the standing water (which is still there) was a strong blue in colour. She went to the machine immediately after it had finished. Although the sheets were blue, they have been washed countless times before and had never run. Nor is our detergent or fabric conditioner blue - a mystery! I've tried the machine and the drum rotates but there does not seem to be water coming into it when a cycle is started. Plus it…

Hi all, Apologies for posting a possibly inane and simply solvable question, but after several hours searching the internet and some time spent in B&Q, I'm rather at my wits end. Hope someone can help! Old washing machine -- cheapo (awful!) Haier we bought when my girlfriend and I first moved in together -- died a death. So, went out and bought a John Lewis machine (made by Zanussi, i think?) with a 3 year guarantee and the offer to take the old lump of junk away. Blokes came to install it but due to a quirk in our house, the washing machine sits in a cupboard adjacent to the kitchen meaning the waste pipe goes through a hole in the wall into the sink trap. Probl…

I have a washing machine which im trying to repair for my landlord. He called out an engineer who said that he suspected that it was a PCB issue and would not be worth fixing.Taking his word as gospel (mistake i know) i ordered a replacement pcb and fitted it. However the same symptons persist. When you try to start any option on the dial the machine will lock the door (audible) and the light will NOT come on for the door lock and then it will not go any further. When you canel the cycle, the door light FLASHES but the lock remains engaged. There are no problems with the water pipes and the last time the machine worked (slightly) it completed a whole cycle and then would …

Hello guys Just returned from holidays and the washing machine does not work. Can select programme and hear water going in, but it does not spin. I suspect it's the door interlock as when i pull the manual door release, I get a quarter turn before the solenoid kicks in and either pauses of displays "door open". http://www.4washerhelp.co.uk/door-interlock/product.pl?pid=1621039 I have removed and inspected the door interlock, cannot find anything obviously wrong. FOR INFO - A month or so ago I could not open the door twice so had to use manual release. Also the machine paused at rinse showing 1 min left. Any help/guidance would be appreciated. Thanks

The best machine I have ever had, but has started making a racket on spin and seems to be a complete mystery. It is more of a tapping noise which gets louder as the spin increases. This is with a full or empty drum. Washing cycles are fine. I don't think it is the bearings as it isn't a rumble ( I have even had the belt off and the drum turns fine without noise). I have had the back off and can see nothing knocking. When I turn the drum by hand it does make a slight clunk at the same point in each turn. I wondered if it was the door flaps because it is at the point where they go into the tub backwards, but they seem as good as ever. One of the paddles is slightly …
