Zanussi Aquacycle 1100 Stopping Mid-Cycle

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I've read through all the FAQs and reasons for a machine not working; very interesting and informative, but I couldn't find my answers there.

My machine was recently moved as our kitchen is being redesigned, and since then (yesterday) when it was plumbed back in, the cycle begins but only goes so far then stops. I've included a picture of the the program dial (guess it's pretty old: no digital readout!). I usually start a normal wash at H and it spins around ending I think on K, not entirely sure. But now it's stopping at J. I tried moving it on slightly by hand, and it did spin again, but soon stopped.

It stops with the sound of a motor ticking over, as if it can't get started, but yet if I move it to the drain cycle (door won't open while the cycle is stuck) it will drain and I can open the door. I asked the plumber to look at it, but he said his specialty was not washing machines and didn't know what to do about it. I took out and cleaned the filter --- it was pretty filthy --- and restarted but after a short burst of activity it again stopped.

I can buy a new one if necessary, though if it's only a part that needs to be replaced, or something I'm doing wrong I'd prefer to go that route. However, what I want to avoid is paying an engineer to come out, be told he can't fix it and be left with that bill plus the price of a new machine! It is however essential that I get it sorted within the next few days, as I can't be without a machine.

Any help or advice you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

TH

If the fault only occurred after being moved it's likely to be related to the move. First thing to check is the plumbing. \is it hot and cold fill? Is hot and cold water going into the machine ok? It will sit and hum if it can't take in cold water.

Thanks for the quick reply.

It does sort of sit and hum, but only after I guess maybe 10/20 mins (haven't sat watching it: TV is bad but not THAT bad!), so is that possibly the problem? My plumber should be back tomorrow, I guess I should ask him. So it's to check that both hot and cold pipes are connected to the machine?

You need to check that hot and cold water are actually getting into the machine and at proper flow rate. Kinked hoses or faulty taps or even one of the taps not actually turned on are all potential issues.

Here's a basic guide to check the water is getting into the machine - Washing machine won't fill with water (or no water goes into washing machine)
