Plumbing In Siemens

Hi there, I hope somone can help. I bought a siemens washing machine heavily discounted in the john lewis clearance on boxing day. Now its arrived, I can't work out how to plumb it in! It is a cold water fill only, and has an aquafill fitting. The manual says that it should be fitted to a cold water tap facing downwards, or at most at a 90 degree angle. However, my taps are standard and face upwards! Is this a pretty easy thing to fix? Is there an adaptor, or can I just plumb it in as it is? Thanks so much for any advice. I'm a single parent, so if its easy to fix without the cost of a plumber I'd really appreciate the help.

Washing Machine Depth

Hi, My first posting on this site so please be gentle.... I trying to find a list of washing machines by depth - strange I know! My kitchen space can take a standard width (600) and height (850) but when it comes to depth it can only take 570. The previous washing machine was an Hotpoint and had a depth of 580 but the floor plinth didn't fit correctly. It now needs replacing after 11 years of perfect service I want to get one that fits and looks right. Budget of £750 but it's the depth that's the stumbling point. Ideally I'd like a site that can list all makes by depth and then i can order it by price. Forgot to say - for all you who dislike Hotpoint mines worked…

How Much Laundry Should I Put In On A Synthetic Wash Load?
by rcwilkinson- 1 follower

Hello I've just bought a new washer dryer, and it has a max capacity load of 6kg. However, for synthetics it says 2.5kg. I was wondering, I am likely to cause damage to the machine, if I exceed 2.5kg weight of synthetics? The reason for asking is that I help with running football trainining sessions and need to wash 30 to 40 nylon bibs each week. I dont want to risk damaging the machine though. Is the lower synthetic weight limit just because the material isnt as dense, meaning you'd struggle to actually load 6kg worth in the machine? Or, for some reason unknown to me, are you likey to cause damage to your machine if you excede the synthetic limit (when you're just …

As I say here my machine is 12 years old. This is the first time i can remember it being faulty, but 12 years is I imagine getting near the natural lifespan of what was a fairly cheap washer-dryer (£300? I can't really remember). So is it best to dump it, as will probably break down again at increasing frequent intervals if it mends at all, and modern machines are much more efficient so I'd save that way anyway? Or give this one another go (given it costs £60 just to call someone out and it might be irrepairable). Thanks.

Good Morning, My wife and I are looking for a washing machine and separate or a two in one for our new house. Firstly would you recommend us getting two different units if we have the space and would there be less chances of problems to occur? We would like the products to be energy efficient, quiet, minimum of 9kg load for washing, have a quick wash option, have dry balancing technology, good long lasting build and good guarantee or have an option to extend to at least 5 years. Our budget for the washing machine is around £800 and for the dryer around £300 Or as a combo around £1100 As we have just moved into a new house, we are looking to purchase by the weeken…

Daewoo Any Good?

At sometime in the next 6 months I'll probably be looking to but a washer dryer. The budget doesn't stretch to a Miele so thinking of something around the £500 mark. As per advice, I ventured into the local independant store, expecting to be shown a selection of machines such as Bosch, LG, Ise etc. I was surprised that the guy recommended a Daewoo machine above all the other better known brands in the shop as being best value for money. He said that the build quality was better than other machines of a similar price and they'd experienced no problems. I only checked the machine over quicky; a 9kg direct drive affair and it certainly seemed well made. Door hinge was mad…

Hi all, I hope someone may be able to help or give me some advice. I live in Germany and brought my Bosch from the uk with me. Its now about 5 years old. Recently there was a problem and it wasnt spinning right and so we called out a repair man. He came and said it was the stabilisers and took it away to repair. When it came back everythng seemed fine to start with. Then we noticed small differences. The plug was no longer English, the liquid tray didnt slide/fit as well as before, the top was longer and the general sides and back were different. Rang the repair man back up and mentioned the differences. To begin with he said it was ours but then admitted that it had …

Washer Dryers Recommended?

Our current machine (Hotpoint Aquarius) is still going, but I don't think it's got too much life left (we bought it in 2001) and I wanted to do a bit of research before leaping in and buying something in a panic if it does breakdown. I was always against using tumble dryers (environment/cost) in the past, but since our last washing machine purchase, I have had two children and my needs have changed somewhat (particularly with this rubbish weather). We don't have space for a separate dryer, so am considering buying a combined washer/dryer. I'm not convinced though as I've heard they can be temperamental. Does anybody have any thoughts on that and/or recommendations on …

Washing Machine Depth 550Mm

Hi I'm wondering if anyone can help with my query.... ... I've got a depth of 550mm for washing machine space and nearly just ordered one at 640mm depth. This would have stopped one of the draws from opening up so I thought I'd get some advice.... - is depth measured at the top of the washing maching or is it the furthest point at the back to the furthest point at the front (the door)? - I've measured 550mm from the pipe fitting in the kitchen to the hinge point of the draws, are these the correct measuring points? - what is the maximum depth I can get in the space I have specified - Whats the best washing machine that fits the 550mm depth? The dilema I have…

Which Integrated Washing Machine To Buy?

Hi We currently have a Bosch integrated washer dryer, its about 6 years old. It has a lot of features on it, it was quite expensive (about 800 i think) and we've had nothing but problems. Mostly from getting clogged up with powder, but we've had a variety of issues, pump broken a few times and now its clogged up again but we cant open the pump so we cant clean it out and we're sick of it now really. So we're going to buy a new machine. We dont use the dryer function that much really so we're wondering if we just get a washing machine we'll have less problems? I'm also going to stop using powder and use liquid in the new machine. We've looked at Which and some…

Hello Its time for us to replace our Hotpoint AQGMD 146 washer dryer. We're in the market for just a washer as we have now got a seperate tumble dryer. Our budget is around the £350 mark. I've seen the Samsung WF0702WKU for this price and i'm led to beleive Samsung washing machines come with a 5 year warranty. Is this a decent washer for this price range? Is there something better in this price range that we should consider? We're limited to Silver or black products due to the colour of our kitchen. Thanks Pete

Strange Washer Installation?

Hello washerhelp.co.uk! I have just moved in to a new house and whilst I have a basic understanding of plumbing in a washer, both me and my Dad are flummoxed with how things have been left for the washing machine. I've included a couple of photos to illustrate: The first photo shows the gap left for the washer. The second photo shows the arrangements under the sink. There is fitted cupboard inbetween the two - distance from washer to standpipe is about 4ft. Whilst there is a hole for the waste pipe in the gap for the washer, we think the units must have been fitted around the waste pipe - wondering whether we are therefore knackered on that front - unless ther…

I've recently had a 2nd child and my old indesit washing machine (which 'v enever been happy with anyway) is on its last legs. I'd really like to replace it before it breaks down completely but don't know what brand to go for. I'd be doing at least a load of washing a day with it I would say, sometimes more. I know that ISE and Miele are the best options in reality, but on my maternity pay I simply can't afford the initial outlay. I was quite keen to get a Bosch but now I've read that they have sealed tubs (which I understand is not good at all when it comes to repairs - or replacement as the case may well be!) So I have looked on the Which website and have narrowed it …

Hi, Does anyone know if ANY of the water that enters into the washing machine go straight into the drum? We want to add a certain liquid into the washing machine before switching it on. But want to find out if any of it will enter into the drum directly OR if it will go straight under the drum. The one that I have got goes straight under the drum, but what about other washing machines? any expert advice will help immensely. Is there any place I can look at to find out the percentage of washing machines that might let water into the drum? Your person experience is much appreciated. Thanks. Regards, FM

Is Using Calgon Expensive?

Good afternoon all. This is my first post and I was moved to join this forum having read an article about the pros and cons of adding limescale prevention powders or tablets to a machine. There seems to be some debate as to the benefits or not of adding these products so I did a little research and a bit of maths and, for me, concluded that adding limescale prevention was simply not worth it. The figures are as follows and are based on the current costs from Asda and on my living in an area with very hard water (according to my water company Anglia Water) I've chosen Calgon since it's all that Asda sell. With Calgon: Calgon tablets: 32p each, Asda wash gel amount recomme…

Hi we need a new washer asap we've got it down to two, a Samsung Ecobubble WF1804WPU or a Zanussi Jetsystem ZWJ14591W we can't find any true independent reviews, and which? are old reviews that seem to dislike Zanussi, the ones they reviewed score low but aren't jet system the Samsung looks like a bush cd player, but it's supposed to be a good wash (so the user reviews on boots say) Samsung 5 year P & L guarantee Zanussi 1 year P & L guarantee What is it with washing machines and the internet, big shops seem to have hijacked the search engines, it's easier to find reviews on graphics cards that washers

Washing Cycle Times

Hello, I would appreciate some advice on "standard" if that exists cycle timings for washing machines. I'm going to replace my timer with a PLC for a number of reasons but mainly because I'd like much more control over the timing of the wash cycles. What I'm hoping to get is a starting point, that I can then modify. I have an old Whirlpool Estate machine if that makes much difference. I'd be happy to share the PLC data, wiring diagrams and the control logic with the group when I'm done. Thanks in advance!

Hello I'm finding it very hard to work out what to do since our old bosch WFF2000 (15yrs+) has given up the ghost. The Bosch WAQ24460GB and AEG L75270FL are both around the £400 mark and have 4 and 5 year guarantees respectively - is there much difference between them? I really would like one which is built to last and can be repaired if necessary. Miele and ISE would be the other options based on your recommendations, but with prices starting at around £700 (from what I can find) and the same length guarantee unless you spend a lot more, I just don't know if it's worth paying the extra considering we do maybe 3-4 loads a week. I'd love to hear anyone's thoughts on thi…

Hi there, Our "t/rusty" 10-year-old Hoover washer-dryer died at the weekend. It's far from the best performer, so we've decided to replace rather than repair. Also: we thought we might split the function and get a separate washer and dryer. Popping in to John Lewis and getting some help led us as far as the Siemens WM14S496GB (£549 after trade-in, 5 year parts/labour guarantee; 10 year guarantee on motor). I felt a little talked-up to it, although, to be fair, we had shown interest in the low-end Mieles (though talk of the high repair costs put me off them a bit). The things that appeal are: very adjustable programmes, apparently simple controls, large drum, low temp/…
