Installation And Removal

Recommended Posts

Are there any companies that you can recommend that remove the old machine and install the new one? I'd like to order from John Lewis but they only have a removal service (and you have to disconnect everything). I'm not really confident enough to know what I'm doing and I'd rather pay for peace of mind and knowing it has all been taken out and installed correctly! I suppose the alternative would be to pay a local plumber - what would be a reasonable charge for this service? P.S. Any update on the Siemens review - I am tempted by this as a cheaper (and lighter!) alternative to Miele because of the hydrosafe feature...

There aren't any specific installers, your best bet is your local repairman. You could ring 10 different people and get 10 different prices. It depends how busy they are and how they view the job. It should be a nice and easy job but then it can take as long as a repair. In my experience many plumbers aren't overly bothered about little jobs like that (sorry plumbers, my experience is if it doesn't sound like a lucrative job you're lucky if some even return your call). If you do know a good plumber though he may be able to help.

If you don't know someone local you may find a suitable repair company here - Appliance repair companies

It's not a difficult job to do if you know someone handy and I have some help on how to install a washing machine here - How to install a washing machine plus the unpacking of the new washing machine will have good clear instructions.

Unpacking and installing the new washing machine is one thing but it's unlikely that anyone agreeing to install the new washing machine for you would take the old one away. You can ask (some may do) but if not you may still need to book John Lewis to take it. Alternatively the installer may agree to put it round the back for you and you can try to get your local council to take it at a later date (there could be a charge).

The Siemens review is coming but it will be a week or so - sorry. I can say though that it's a good machine, but not in the same class as Miele at all (who are?). Miele washing machines also have anti leak and anti flood safety features (Water Control System - A float switch detects leaks and can trigger the water inlet to close | Waterproof System - A double safety valve can switch off the water supply within seconds of a leak occurring) but you'd need to check the specs as it depends on which model you get as to which are fitted.

However, if I wasn't wanting to spend £500 or more I would look at Siemens or Electrolux/AEG.
