I have just moved into a new home, where the old type cold fill pipe is in situ, and due to the awkward distance, I would like to utilise the old pipe, and join to the modern fitting behind the washing machine. The fitting has a sort of water container that I assume is to help prevent leaks or something. Is there any way I can do this, what fittings would I need ? Photos aren't brilliant sorry. Thanks.

Hi there I've moved into a place with a Tricity Bendix AW1401 washing machine and Economy 7 electricity. The machine has no inbuilt timer and I'm wondering if anyone knows a way to install some sort of timer device for use with a washing machine like this? I thought about a plug socket timer, but assume I'll still have to press 'start'. Anyone got any bright ideas? Thanks!

I have inherited an old washing machine in the apartment that I rent. It's been used for more than 6 years by other people, and had all kinds of things, like mats, etc, washed in it. Is it OK to use?

Hi, I am living on my own in rented accommodation, and am likely to only be here for maybe 3 months or so. It seems like a waste of money to buy a brand new washing machine, as I may end up moving into shared housing in a few months (or another rental property with a washing machine already provided). Am I right in thinking I'm best off just picking up a cheap second hand machine to tide me over? There are a few that come up on Gumtree Bristol, but its hard to assess their quality/reliability. They are normally around £80, but you get the odd one for £30 or reconditioned ones for more... But as most washing machines don't seem to be built to last anymore I don't really …

I noticed you dissing AEG's sealed tubs? on another topic. What are they and why are they bad? Do all AEG's have them? As you know AEG has a pretty good rep regardless.

Hi there, I hope somone can help. I bought a siemens washing machine heavily discounted in the john lewis clearance on boxing day. Now its arrived, I can't work out how to plumb it in! It is a cold water fill only, and has an aquafill fitting. The manual says that it should be fitted to a cold water tap facing downwards, or at most at a 90 degree angle. However, my taps are standard and face upwards! Is this a pretty easy thing to fix? Is there an adaptor, or can I just plumb it in as it is? Thanks so much for any advice. I'm a single parent, so if its easy to fix without the cost of a plumber I'd really appreciate the help.

I thought I'd decided, the John lewis jlwm1605, then I found the lgf1681td, similar specifications, 8kg, 1600rpm, and £100 or so cheaper, but reviews mention, apart from unhelpful delivery men, the excessive shake rattle and rolling during the fast 1600rpm spin. This can't be good for long term health of the whole machine. Any thoughts or comments to cure my indecisiveness?

Hi, I'm trying to find a list of washing machines by depth. My kitchen space can take a standard width (600) and height (850) but when it comes to depth it can only take 570. The previous washing machine was an Hotpoint and had a depth of 580 but the floor plinth didn't fit correctly. It now needs replacing after 11 years of perfect service I want to get one that fits and looks right. Budget of £750 but it's the depth that's the stumbling point. Ideally I'd like a site that can list all makes by depth and then i can order it by price. Forgot to say - for all you who dislike Hotpoint mines worked without fault for 11 years and gets used at least every other day. …

Good Morning, My wife and I are looking for a washing machine and separate or a two in one for our new house. Firstly would you recommend us getting two different units if we have the space and would there be less chances of problems to occur? We would like the products to be energy efficient, quiet, minimum of 9kg load for washing, have a quick wash option, have dry balancing technology, good long lasting build and good guarantee or have an option to extend to at least 5 years. Our budget for the washing machine is around £800 and for the dryer around £300 Or as a combo around £1100 As we have just moved into a new house, we are looking to p…

Our current machine (Hotpoint Aquarius) is still going, but I don't think it's got too much life left (we bought it in 2001) and I wanted to do a bit of research before leaping in and buying something in a panic if it does breakdown. I was always against using tumble dryers (environment/cost) in the past, but since our last washing machine purchase, I have had two children and my needs have changed somewhat (particularly with this rubbish weather). We don't have space for a separate dryer, so am considering buying a combined washer/dryer. I'm not convinced though as I've heard they can be temperamental. Does anybody have any thoughts on that and/or recommendations on bran…

Good afternoon all. This is my first post and I was moved to join this forum having read an article about the pros and cons of adding limescale prevention powders or tablets to a machine. There seems to be some debate as to the benefits or not of adding these products so I did a little research and a bit of maths and, for me, concluded that adding limescale prevention was simply not worth it. The figures are as follows and are based on the current costs from Asda and on my living in an area with very hard water (according to my water company Anglia Water) I've chosen Calgon since it's all that Asda sell. With Calgon: Calgon tablets: 32p each, Asda wash gel amount recomme…

Hello, I would appreciate some advice on "standard" if that exists cycle timings for washing machines. I'm going to replace my timer with a PLC for a number of reasons but mainly because I'd like much more control over the timing of the wash cycles. What I'm hoping to get is a starting point, that I can then modify. I have an old Whirlpool Estate machine if that makes much difference. I'd be happy to share the PLC data, wiring diagrams and the control logic with the group when I'm done. Thanks in advance!

I find it strange why on lower models, the maximum spin speeds on certain programs are lower than on higher models, *even though the lower models can accomodate that spin speed*. e.g. all examples below refer to potential 1200rpm which all machines can spin at Premier 520 top spin speed is 1200rpm, W3240 is 1400rpm and W3922 is 1600rpm Program..................Premier 520......|.....W3240....|.....W3922........ Minimum Iron..............900rpm...............1200rpm.........1200rpm.......... Automatic....................900rpm................900rpm...........1200rpm..........

I need a new washer and my choice is between the W1714 and the W3240. However, like the previous poster, my washer location is in a purpose built cupboard in the right hand corner of the room. I estimate that the door of the W1714 will open to 90 degrees from the shut position (a 44cm diameter door positioned 6 cm in from edge) and the W3240 should open to around 110 degrees from shut ( a 39.5 cm door, 9 cm in from edge). Does anyone have experience of a Miele up against a right hand wall (!!!! ) and will the fact that the door cannot open beyond 90 to 110 degrees be a problem? Thanks

My wife and I have narrowed the huge array of options for washing machines to Miele. This is mainly for the reliability, water and power efficiency of the machines. My wife is concerned that as we are getting a bit older and that the machines are designed for at least 20 years life expectancy, how do we raise the machine to ease the stress on our ageing bones and muscles. Is it possible to do, will it affect the warrantee?

Hello. I built my kitchen cabinet with 860mm height. And my washing machine has a height of 844mm. The water outlet will pump water out of the washing machine. The plan is to plumb it under the sink, so that it will pump water directly into the pipe under the sink. However, pipe hole is quite high at 650mm above ground. Hence, the water might converge inside the pipe, or even move into the washing machine hence malfunctioning it. Any solution to this?

I bought a second hand washing machine 2 days ago. Do you need the 2 fill hoses connected to hot and the cold pipes? I only have a cold water supply so there is no water supplied to the hot water valve. The washing machine works on all the programs except i am having problems on the 95 degree wash to do my shirts. I set the programme going and no water comes out all the other programs are working ok I've been told i need to turn on the hot water one on but the lady i got it off said it works with just the cold water one can any one give me any feed back please its doing my head in.

Hi all we are in the process of looking to buy a new washer,we have at present a Hotpoint ultima 7kg (4-year old) and we are wanting something on similar lines as to wash cycles times and spin speed (1600) we also want if possible for the washer to be able to be programmed by the user and not the machine in regards to the spin speed temp and length of the cycle (30m-1hr). Most makes we have looked at have ridiculous wash times. Up to 3hrs wash cycles and set max spin speeds for different wash cycles that can have the spin reduced, but not increased and some don't give any times.
