Hi, Im after a bit of advice on a Zanussi WDT1085 TurboDry. The machine starts to fill with water, then after about a minute it trips the RCD on the board. If I then click the dial on a bit so that its mid way through the cycle, it will run fine and complete the wash. Im thinking this might be happening when the heating element kicks in...can anyone confirm this please? Just want to make sure before I buy a new element. If anyone has a link to a manual that would be really appreciated too! Cheers :-) TG

Hi. Hope someone can help me. After fitting new bearings on my hotpoint WMA10 the drum stabiliser pins keep working their way out. I have pushed them back in countless times but after a few washes the come out again. What can I do to stop this from happening. Regards adamski.

Hi, I have a hotpoint WF541 washing machine, and halfway through a cycle the 'door locked' light started flashing, the cycle stopped, and the only way to get the door open was to turn it off at the mains for a few minutes. If I tried to start a new cycle the 'wash'light came on and the door locked, however the door lock light didn't come on and the cycle wouldn't start. I figured the door interlock was broken, so bought a new one. I fitted it, and everything now worked perfectly. However after putting a new cycle on, it got halfway through the cycle and the same thing has happened again to the new door interlock. I.e. I press start cycle, the door locks but the door lo…

After doing a short 30min wash which had finished I tried to turn the programme selector knob to spin, and although it turns none of the pictures around it light up and I therefore cannot select a programme. Other lights on the control panel remain on and seem to be functioning normally. I tried turning off the power for a short while and trying again, but it hasn't fixed the problem. Please help!

Hi, I have a Hotpoint WF440P washing machine which is about 7 years old. It stopped working completely. When start button is clicked, nothing happens at all for a few minutes and then the Door Locked light flashes. This continues until machine is switched off. I have looked at all the FAQ's and common faults on this site and others and it would appear that the carbon brushes may need replacing. I have consulted several videos on how to do this and feel I could do it - but I cannot get the motor out of the machine to check the brushes. My problem is that the motor is fitted underneath the drum. It is accessible through a small panel and I have loosened nuts and re…

Hi I have a 2 year old Hotpoint Ultima WMD962 that doesn't heat the water anymore and the wash cycles are taking forever (30 min quick wash took 1.5 hours) I've read through your FAQ's and you mention that Hotpoint don't always give fault codes - mine isn't. I've tried different washes/settings but they all suffer the same drawn out, cold demise! Can someone please advise me whether there is any idiot proof checks I can do before I pay the £180 quoted to me today to come and have a look at it??? Many thanks in advance Jo

My 12 year old hoover six 1100 door won't open after the wash cycle has finished. It will however, if I unplug it and leave it for a few hours. (I run the dryer as well, don't know if this helps) Why is this and can it be repaired, and at what cost? Someone suggested it might be limescale on the pressure pot (huh?) and I could clean the tubes myself! Really, how?

Hello there, A few months ago my bosch classix 1200 wouldnt spin up to full speed.I replaced the carbon brushes which were worn down to about 1/8inch length. All was well until last week whe it started spinning slowly again.I removed the motor and saw that the commutator was scored.I tried to clean it and I rubbed it with fine sandpaper but it is still a bit scored. What would yo recommend doing next?Should I replace the motor or just the armature itself. Is it possible to remove the scoring and then put more new brushes? Thanks

I have a Miele W906 that has behaved faultlessly for nearly 16 years. It has been plumbed in its current location for 10 years, connected to low pressure (loft tank fed) cold supply - there is no mains supply where it is located. It has just developed two problems, and one would think they are related but I can't work out how. Problem 1: With machine switched off but stop cock on, the drum fills with some fresh, clean water overnight. Stop cock off, this stops and if you take the detergent drawer out there is a drip, drip of water, hours after the machine has been used. Diagnosis = inlet valve failure (I have cleaned the filter). Problem 2 has appeared at the same time…

Seeking help/ advice -- we have just inherited a Creda excel 1200 washing machine today. Hadnt been used for over a year. Transported on its side. Upon connecting and running - filled ok and attempted to turn - moved about 10 degrees, emptied ok. tried again -- the same. Couldnt rotate drum from inside, checked back of drum - drive belt had come loose -- motor working, still couldnt rotate drum by using the spider. There is an obviuos rotational splash on the inside cover not sure this is from oil or is rust. I would appriate any feedback about the possible fault and how to repair (is it a seized bearing?) Unable to relocate the belt -- does this motor have an adjusta…

I have a fairly modern Servis M9310. (yeah, I know, but it was cheap and I needed something quick to replace our old machine). All was fine until about a month ago when it developed a problem. During the wash cycle the drum would 'stutter' slightly, almost like a slight 'misfire' on a car. I took the back off and the belt was in a bad way and rotating the drum by hand you could feel it wasn't running right. After a quick inspection of the brushes and a new belt the machine was put back together and ran OK. However, the fault has come back, worse than before! I have inspected the belt-still good as new. I have checked the brushes again (Tons left) and cleaned/inspected …

Hi, Got a Hotpoint WDL540 washer/dryer which i've owned from new (2008) which has been giving me problems. There is now no heat to any of the wash cycles - so I'm guessing that the thermostat has gone? (Advice please). I have never worked on a washing machine before so before I get my hands dirty, do you think I should have a go and try to fix these two problems or am I biting off more than I can chew? (Advice please). I don't want to pay for an engineer to come out as I'm guessing it could be quite costly, especially when I can get a new one for £250. Thanks

Hello.. My Hoover Oph 716 DF has recently stopped working. Basically when the start button is pressed nothing at all happens.. Usually a led lights up when the start button is pressed or flashes if the door isn't closed properly.. Machine has power as display is still lit.. Other buttons still function as normal. I tried dismantling the machine to get to the buttons to see if I could try swapping them around but they're all soldered directly to the circuit board,, I've also tried unplugging/re-plugging in all the connectors on the circuit board but no joy there..Same with the interlock., No error numbers are showing up on the display. Machine is 2 years old. Any s…

Hi, can anybody tell me what the purpose of the foam ring is on the interlock cable and where it should be properly situated. Have just replaced bearing and noticed it 'dangling' on cable when putting machine back together.

We have a Hotpoint Aquarius WD440 Washer/Dryer, and for the last few months our washing has had white marks on it. We use a liquid detergent, which is placed in a cap and placed on the washing. Did think it maybe calcium, but we live in Devon, which is a soft water area . Any ideas worried that a new machine may not solve the problem. Thanks.

Hi there, Last night a fuse tripped in my fuse cupboard. Reset it, checked everything was working (i.e. fridge, freezer etc), but noticed that the washing machine had stopped in the wash cycle. I removed the clothes, and have emptied all the water from the hose and filter, and switched the machine on/off countless times from the mains. When trying to put the machine into a new programme, all the buttons work, all the lights work, but when the cycle is due to start, nothing happens, no spinning, no water, no noise. Any help would be very much appreciated. Thanks a lot, Paul

Hi, I have a John Lewis washing machine and the drum is completely stuck (Model number: JLWM1405). I've read on these forums quite a bit, so have looked carefully all around the drum to see if I could see anything caught or poking out of one of the holes, there is nothing as far as I can see. I've checked and cleaned the filter and there was nothing there either. At one point I did manage to get the drum to turn a little, but it just gets stuck again. I'm thinking maybe there's something stuck that is stopping it turning, but I can't see anything and don't understand how anything could have gotten in there anyway.. Should I take off the back of the machine and check…

Hi This machine is about 12 years old and never needed anything apart from cleaning the filter . It has stopped rotating and spinning it just fills and empties and goes through its cycle although when I let it fill with water only without a load it does rotate . I took the back panel off and the belt is not broken or slack . Any ideas what it might be . we have 2 of these almost identical only the other one is just branded Bendix I've never known washing machines last as long as these 2 the Hoovers and Hotpoints didn't last half as long.

Hello, I'm trying to work out what is causing the rather alarming noise my washing machine started making the other week, at first i thought it was the drum bearing but i thought i'd try to be sure and investigate a bit. After reading the DIY help tips and looking around on the forum i'm still not quite sure and wondered if anyone had any suggestions. The drum doesn't grind when rotated by hand it makes it's usual whirring sound and there is no excess play up down or sideways. However when i took the back off to have a poke about there is evidence of staining casued my escaped water, so 50/50 on the drum bearing there! I ran the machine on spin while it was empty and it…

Hello all, Our hotpoint wml540 (about 4yrs old) shows no signs of life at all, although it previously worked fine and I don't remember any problems with the last wash. Have scrolled through 12 pages of questions here and found some related, also read Haynes repair manual and other internet sources which suggest the on/off switch, interlock door switch or main pcb. There is 240v getting to the main pcb and also to the interlock switch brown/red connector terminal block and I measured 198ohms across these interlock switch terminals (heater element perhaps). What I need to know-- could there be no sign of life at all the if the interlock switch is faulty or would operatio…

Well I've never had kidney stones but I think my washing machine might have. These stones were as big as gravel and were blocking the pump. Were they formed by detergent or hard water, or a combination? They were whitish blue in colour. Anybody come across these before, if so what were they?
