Hello,

I have a two or three year old Indesit IWB 5123 which suddenly developed this fault. During one of the washings once it entered the spinning cycle the drum started to make a loud banging noise and it stayed like that since then. There is a lot of sideways movement to the point that the drum can hit something behind it.

In this thread one user suggested that a bolt somewhere near the rear weight block may have loosened.

Is this what you think it is?

Here are couple of videos:

* starting the spinning cycle

* front to back movement

Thanks!

With a noise like that you detect what's causing it by disconnecting the machine from the power and taking off the back panel and lid. Then you bounce and shake the tub around and locate where the noise is coming from as well as prodding and poking around for something that is loose. The first thing to check is the drum weights, which are usually bolted to the outer drum at the bottom, at the front and on the top. Some will just have one (usually made of concrete) and some may have two. They commonly come loose. It may be possible to tighten them back up but over-tightening will break the main outer drum (tub) as they are only bolted onto a plastic drum.
