Hoover HBWD 7514DA-80 Fault E21

Recommended Posts

Hello, I hope you can help. Today my washerdryer model Hoover 7514da-80 showed fault code E21. I can't even find online what this code refers to. I have looked at the discharge pump, tried resetting (just says E21), disconnected all electrical connectors on main PCB. Can anyone offer any guidance please?

Hello there. Unfortunately I can't see anything referring to E 21 either so your only option is to contact Hoover I'm afraid. This is the problem with error codes, they mask actual symptoms and symptoms are what leads an engineer or anyone investigating to their fault. Without any symptoms it is impossible to find the problem unless by any chance something obvious can be seen.

Sometimes an error code is displayed that according to technical information is, "not used". How that is possible is not clear, but it is possible that the error code is not supposed to be in use. The only other explanation is that they just don't want to tell you what it means. Once it is known what an error code means there is an avenue open for investigation. Manufacturers always justify this by saying they do not want to encourage people who don't know what they are doing to mess about with dangerous repairs. They definitely have a point there.

Unfortunately error codes give a lot of control to the manufacturers and many error codes are deliberately kept secret, sometimes even from qualified independent appliance engineers. The other side of the coin though is that before error codes washing machines used to commonly flood people's kitchens, boil people's laundry, and go crazy jumping about and smashing up the kitchen. So the ability for a washing machine to detect an error and shut the washing machine down is a wonderful advancement. Just not so much keeping the code secret :-)
