Hi we've just bought a brand new zanussi washer dryer Z716WT83BI from ao had previous zanussi washer dryer for over ten years nice and quiet reasonably reliable apart from pumps wearing out. This one however is driving us round the bend whenever we use the dryer the pump runs constantly. Is this normal?

Heres a vid we uploaded to youtube.

Hello Steve. The pump sounds very noisy, but my problem is that  most recording devices use automatic level control which compresses the audio and makes it sound louder. So it's difficult to judge exactly how much noisier than normal it is - if at all. There is an accompanying knocking sound though. This regular knocking sound appears to be coming from the drain hose, which can clearly be seen writhing about. The first thing you need to do is secure the drain hose properly so that it is not knocking about and tapping on the back panel etc.

If it has a clip designed to clip to the back of the washing machine put it back in the clip. If not you may need to use cable ties or some other device. Sometimes when the washing machine is pumping air a drain hose can move about in a regular rhythm and that is definitely contributing to your noise. Other than that, the noise that I can hear is the normal noise of a washing machine water pump when it has drained away all the water and is just pumping air. It does sound very loud, but that could easily be the automatic level control on the recording.

Hi andy thanks for your reply. Is it normal for a washer dryer to pump air constantly the entire time its drying?

Thanks

Some may just put the pump on intermittently but many will just have the pump running all the time.
