Hotpoint WMFUG742 beeping

Hello. Have you looked at the instruction book to see if it says what the beeping means? Also, how is it beeping? Is it a constant repeated beep or a set number of beeps that repeats after a a pause? Finally, does the washing machine otherwise finish OK or does it stop working properly?

Very strange. Some washing machines can beep once the washer has finished if they go into an anti crease mode. My Miele does. It just turns the drum every now and then and beeps. But during the wash cycle I don't know of anything that should beep unless there was a fault. But if it runs OK and washes and spins the laundry OK it sounds like there isn't. Definitely keep an eye on it.

We have this same issue with the same model. The washer runs as normal and the display is as normal but it beeps for no obvious reason. Its will beep three short beeps within about a second and may do they between 1 and 4 times within about ten seconds. Then it sometimes doesn't repeat it for days and will sometimes do it ten times in one wash. There is absolutely no reference to audible alerts messages etc in the instructions. That booklet refers only to things on the display and to various behaviours.

If it does it all through the cycle that's weird. If it only does it after the main spin at the end it will be anti-crease guard notification where the cycle is finished but the drum keeps turning intermittently to stop laundry getting creased.

My machine does exactly the same. Does not appear to affect the wash cycle but really annoying if you are working near it.

I did wonder if it was the "smart" part of the programming adjusting the cycle as it ran but as per other posts, absolutely no mention in user guide or anything I have found on line.

It would be helpful if everybody with this issue could carefully watch their washing machine and then report back exactly what the washing machine is doing when they hear these beeps. We could then see if there is any correlation or pattern, or if it truly is at random. So for example, when it does the beeps what was the washing machine doing exactly before the beeps? Was it filling with water, had it just finished filling with water, had it just done a spin, was it draining the water, or was it just washing back and forth etc.?

Unfortunately William the only beeping that I'm aware of that indicates an error code is a recurring pattern whereas yours is not recurring. A beep indicating  error code F06 for example would beep six times, pause for one second beat six times, pause for one second etc. error F03 would beep three times and pause, and so on. Unfortunately I can't think of any logic behind one beeping different numbers of times.

Thought I was hearing things! Mine’s been doing this for 3years. Moved it (ok, I was looking in case a smoke detector had fallen behind and was running out of battery!!) no change. Cleaned. Pressed all buttons. No change in water pressure. Sometimes goes for a month with no problem. Odd.

As a follow up to this I have had an engineer out to my machine. The bearings went and he came and fitted a whole new drum - it is now washing much more quietly and spinning better - but the beeping persisted. In fact it had progressed to a series of 3, 4, 5 or 7 beeps, at various stages in the wash.  I rang Hotpoint and asked them what this meant but was told the only answer was to have the engineer back. I was a bit reluctant to do that as it was performing fine - surely someone there must know if they were error codes - but no.
Engineer duly came back yesterday, ran the diagnostics and said there is nothing the matter.  But it never beeped when new, so surely there was something, especially as the beeps were progressing in number and repetition.
As a goodwill gesture he replaced a circuit board in there, and said if it still persisted he would come back and replace the top board.
But so far - NO BEEPS!! Success I hope.

Many thanks for the update Njac. Please let us know if you decide it has definitely fixed this issue, or if the beeps come back (hopefully not).

Mine has just started doing the beeping thing while on a 40 degree wash on time saving mode. Think it’s 1 hour 47? Panicking! The previous owners left it and I’ve been using it since December and it’s been fine

It seems to be going ok during it’s cycle??!

I have however just turned my heating on with my wireless thermostat.

Could that be the issue?!
