Curious
My 3 yr old Indesit washer has suddenly decided not to spin up to speed on the spin cycle. It washes and rinses ok but when it gets to the fast spin part it wont get up to speed. It tries to speed up for a couple of seconds then seems to cut out, this continues a few times until the controller reaches its stop and the cloathing is left sopping wet in the drum. Would it be a motor problem or a sensor problem?
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted June 5, 2006 Root Admin Report Share Posted June 5, 2006 Many modern washing machines have sensors that monitor the motor, and if the load doesn't seem balanced it won't go into fast spin. They will try many times until they achieve a balanced spin or run out of time. However, this behaviour shouldn't occur without any washing in - so if the machine still won't spin with no clothes in the drum, we can discount it. Another cause for this type of behaviour is a blocked pressure system. This would result in the washing machine draining the water but not going into a fast spin. There is a lot of previous advice regarding pressure systems so you could search and research pressure system. To be honest though, I'd be surprised if it was a blocked pressure system at 3 years old. Another possible cause is worn carbon brushes but you would normally get crackling, gratering noises when the motor is running. Again, it shouldn't be worn carbon brushes at 3 years old unless the washing machine is heavily used (or a Hotpoint - which it isn't) Finally, I've come across Indesit machines with problems like this that turned out to be a faulty speed control module or even a faulty motor. It's really not a simple DIY job because of the many possible causes so if you can't track down a cause from what I've written, it may be better to get an engineeer in. If it was the motor though, you may as well buy another machine as it would cost well over half the purchasing cost of a new washing machine.
