Curious
I have a four year old washing machine. My problem is that if the machine is left idle for over 12 hours, it is frequently filling with foul water. I suspect that there may be a blockage somewhere related to lint & dog hair, so my question is; Where is the blockage likely to be, and can I access it? Are there any other likely causes for the "back-filling"?
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted June 2, 2006 Root Admin Report Share Posted June 2, 2006 It's most likely to be water from the sink siphoning into the washing machine. Does the water from this washing machine pump out to a connection on the U bend under the sink? If so, make sure the drain hose is tied up in such a way that water from the sink doesn't have a direct run down the drain hose into the washer. It should have to go uphill at least 4 inches. This would make it impossible for water to trickle down into the washing machine. The only other thing that causes water to seep into a machine overnight is a leaking fill valve - but this would be clean water and not foul.
