Hoover Nextra Hnl2126 - Suspected Heater Problem

Hi - 1st post, so please be gentle! I suspect there is a heater issue with my Hoover Nextra HNL2126. I have read your general questions on faults.

The water stays at ambient temp whatever temp is programmed. even on a 90 degree wash. The door only has a single glazed so you should be able to feel it get hot. It has definitely felt hot in the past.

I did google the problem and it seems I should get an error code (flashing lights) if there was an issue with the element or thermostat. Is it worth fitting a new element or do you think there may be something else?

Hello porter: Does the washer actually do the complete cycle, in the normal time, and does it still get the laundry clean, or is it behaving differently as well as not being able to feel the hot water?

Hi - thanks for your reply. It does go through the full cycle in, I think, the normal time. Laundry is clean but glass doesn't feel warm at any point in the cycle. I think we're just washing at cold temp

I'm not aware of any fault that would cause that I'm afraid. As I write in my article washing machine isn't heating up water if the heater isn't working it should either stick on wash forever (only quite old washing machines) or it should normally either abort and time out with an error code or at least click through the cycle quickly. If the laundry is clean and the programme takes its normal amount of time is should be working ok.

Washing machines now have sensors which monitor the water temperature, and if they detect no temperature rise within a certain time they know it isn't heating and produce an error code.

If you discover any different please update us.

You could try this Nextra washing machine test program

1: Press and hold button 1 (the first option button)

2: Turn the program selector know clockwise 2 steps

3: As soon as the LED on button 1 lights release the button - All LEDs should light

4: After 3 seconds (but within 5) press button 1

If correctly set the 2 rows of LEDs, residual time/delay and buttons should flash alternately.

This should presumably set a short test sequense where the washer tests all basic functions including the heater. Let me know if you can succesfully set it going and exactly what happens.

Thanks...the test programme worked fine and did not indicate any errors. It took a couple of minutes to fill, rotate, drain, spin and then stopped as if at the end of a normal programme.

I ran an empty 90 degree wash soon after - I checked the glass every 5 minutes and it was stone cold. No idea what's happening. I've got to assume it's working OK, but I've definitely felt the glass get hot before.
