Hotpoint Ultima Tripping Electrics

First off hello all. Ive got a Hotpoint Ultima washer WT960 that was tripping as soon as you turned it on. So i did the usual disconnect the motor...it tripped....re attatched wires disconnected the element it ran.

I located the new element through Espares (it even had a video below the product on how to fit it). As ive only just bought it from an add in the paper and im skint i decided to let the program run with the element wires disconnected and taped up to make sure there was nothing else wrong. Ran for a while then came up with the F03 fault number.(Washer thermister open or short circuit)

Im guessing its because ive disconnected the three wires and the block with the 2 blue from the heating element.

Can anyone put my mind at rest and tell me that its just because ive disconnected the element. or its back to handwashing until i can afford a new washer

If the element isn't working because it's not wired up then the washing machine will detect that the temperature of the water isn't rising, and will abort with an error code.

Tripping the electrics is a fault that needs a proper insulation test meter (megger) that puts 500 volts (dc) through the appliance to properly test the insulation. Trying to fix it by disconnecting parts is a pretty crude method, although it's the same way an engineer could test for the fault except he'd disconnect parts until his meter shows the fault has cleared and then confirms it by testing the individual part in question. If the fault was caused by the heater you need to correctly refit the wires to test it. If it's still there then possibly when you disconnected all the wires you also took something else out of the circuit that was the real culprit. If the fault remains I'd get an engineer in with an insulation meter or scrap the machine.
