Clothes Sopping Wet After Spinning

Recommended Posts

We have the above machine. For the past few months, clothes have been coming out sopping wet, and on watching the machine, it does sometimes not spin at all, or will not do its final spin. Recently it stopped working completely, due to worn out motor brushes, which I replaced, and I thought cured it. its better but still has the above issues.

We recently noticed however, that although meant to be a 5kg machine, this is only for certain programmes, most specify a 2.5kg max load. Would an overloaded machine cause this. After more investigation, the machine works perfectly on some programs, but not others most notably the 40 degree synthetic. On this program, with a normal load, under 2.5kg, it gets to the last intermediate spin, that is reasonably fast, and then spins down, and finishes.

The clothes are not sopping, but still damper than would be normal, and we have to do a manual spin cycle. it also appears to stop at least 15mins, from the specified amount of time it should take....mini 30 degree program works fine, as does the 40 and 60 degree cottons. (These cotton progs are 5kg loads...)

I am completely stumped. Beko suggested it was a selector issue, but I have removed this, and cleaned it up, no change.

Is there a way of resetting these machines brains??#

Would welcome any help at all.....

Thanks Washerhelp

I thought of that as well. But it just seems to be the Syntehtic programs that are affected.... They spin, but dont finish the cycle, usually at least 15mins short, and dont do the final spin. Clothes come out damp rather then as they should after a fast final spin. Cotton programs are fine.

Are there any known issues with the controller chips on these or anything.

I intentionally overloaded the 40 Synthetic with 2.7Kg rather than its max of 2.5kg, and it refused to spin at all, never mind just an intermediate spin.

Before I go pulling it apart again, could this be a pressure switch issue?

Synthetics will only spin at a maximum of 800rpm. Other than making sure no spin cancel or spin reduction options are set it's hard to advise further. Not spinning at full speed or aborting spin is usually down to the washer not feeling confident the load is balanced properly if it otherwise spins other loads ok. If there was a problem with the main parts of the machine such as motor, pump, pressure system etc. it shouldn't do it only on synthetics.

Thanks for your help...

Thought I had cured it, read that these machines sometimes have a faulty chip..... Solution is to unplug, and press on/off button to drain capacitors. Then disconnect all connections from PCB for 15-20mins. Tried this as I thought it cant hurt.... Seemed to be OK after this. Ran a 40 degree synthetic empty, was OK, although it still only ran for 100mins rather than the stated 120mins, did it with a load, and it ran OK, clothes not a dry as I would have expected, but as you say its only an 800rpm spin for synthetics... Did a load on 40 cotton, ran OK, but seemed to struggle to intermediate spin, and then on its final spin cycle it span up for around 15secs, then just stopped.... no after spin rotation, it just ended the cycle. It did have 3-4 towels in, as well as some normal clothes...I presume this was an aborted spin, due to balance issues. Is there any way around balance issues??

My wife has said its been generally fine today, but failed to spin a mini 30 this evening.

Sorry forgot to mention, with the load that did not spin, there were some banging noises from the machine when it was trying intermediate spins, when it tried a fast spin though there was no banging and it sounded quite smooth, although i noticed the drum moving from side to side. When I turned the selector to SPIN/DRAIN it span fine with no issues... Odd??

Sounds like a good example of an out of balanced load. Towels are notorious for it, especially if only a few are placed in with other very light items. Try putting bigger loads in.

An out of balanced load is more often a smaller load rather than a big load, and will usually sway quite a lot on the build up to spin or even bang about a little. Ironically once actually spinning it can settle down a bit, but out of balance detection may decide to not let it spin too fast.

Thanks for all your advice.. Sounds like its something we will have to live with, of its balance issues, which it sounds like. Are there any parts from balance detection that can go wrong?? Seems this machine is very sensitive to out of balance loads, or maybe its just a cheap and cheerful machine

Will probably replace in 6-8 months or so, with a better quality one, any opinions on manufacturer??

Beko are cheap and cheerful - one of the cheapest washing machines to buy. Therefore it's possible their out of balance software isn't as sophisticated as it might be, the suspension isn't likely to be as strong and efficient as more expensive machines so they are likely to set it to be deliberately cautious, mindful that a severely badly balanced load could wreck it.

Miele or ISE10 should be much better but all washing machines have this issue of not spinning loads that aren't pretty well balanced for the reasons I described in detail on the Washing machine won't spin just one item or very small loads Blog article.

Hi

Again thanks for your help, and also the very informative articles you have on this site. Just one more quick question if thats OK....

Obviously it now seems this is a load issue, as it seems to be fine, if we are a little more careful about what we put into it for each load. If it does fail to spin, due to a balance issue, why does it not complain and spin absolutely fine, if we select SPIN/DRAIN on the selector, and then run that programme. We do nothing to the load, not even open the door. Just wondered.....

Cheers Chris: Do you mean when it refuses to spin at the end of the synthetics cycle and you put it onto normal spin it spins OK? If it's a close call that it didn't spin during the wash cycle (i.e. not badly out of balance) and it gets another chance to try and balance the load it manages to do it OK. Also, if you select normal spin the balance criteria might be different, less sensitive, and the spin only programme may give a longer distribution time than during a wash cycle as it's more difficult to settle laundry that's been hand washed and put only on a spin. Some machines wont even let you use spin only for that reason and force you to do 1 or more rinses first.
