Electrolux EWX147410W Washer/Dryer blank but illuminated display but all come on after a random wait and the machine then works

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I have the Electrolux Combination Washer dryer model EWX147410W  - Prod no. 91460604200

I repaired this machine 9 months ago where I had to replace the drum pulley (Spider) and fit a new belt. It was an easy diagnosis as the machine was working as I could hear the motor working but the drum was not turning. Bought the parts, fitted them correctly and the machine worked fine again.

Now when you select a program, he display panel is illuminated but completely blank and the temp and spin speed indicator lights are not lit. However, after a random period of time (Usually 10 to 15 minutes) the display comes on and the you can select your chosen temperature and spin speed and the wash cycle happily completes the wash, my ex-wife did say that on one isolated incident, that the wash cycle stopped mid cycle and she had to turn off the power at the mains switch and wait for the panel to light up and drain it and start the wash cycle again and it has not stopped mid cycle again.

This may be helpful information but she never uses the dryer, I don't know if that is relevant or not. I am a fairly good all round handy man. I did a car mechanic apprenticeship when I left school and later became a computer technician and mostly hardware repairs, I also built a house so my skill set is broad but in this instance its rather Jack of all trades......

The machine was installed by Taylor Wimpey homes in our house which was bought as a new Build in 2015 so it has been used for 8 years. The fault tells me its an electrical issue and if it is a loose connection in a multi pin block connector, then it an easy fix. The same process to repair as a car but I wouldn't know where to start. A friend was supposed (he couldn't make it so I couldn't pull out the integrated appliance) to come round and help me pull the machine out so I could remove the top cover and unplug and spray with electrical contact cleaner and re-plug all the block connectors, possibly remove the PCBs and look for dry joints but its all just trying things and looking for obvious signs......🤔

If a member tells me "yes it is one the PCBs, a capacitor or something is faulty and takes time to warm up then I probably wont bother. I no longer live there so its not like I can take my time experimenting with different things and perhaps getting lucky eventually. I need to know what it is most likely to be and go there with an assistant and repair it there and then.

If anybody knows or what it is likely to be and it is an easy and inexpensive repair, I would be very grateful for the advice having already been there once with a 50 mile round trip in commuter traffic and 1 hour spent at the house. She is continuing to use the machine as it is but in a week or 2 I will get the call that it its given up or the wait time has become intolerable.

Thanks in Advance, ritchy

Hi. These symptoms sound similar to a popular thread on here about a Beko washing machine fault that was something to do with a diode. It definitely sounds like a connection fault on the display panel and it main pcb or a fault in one of them.

Unfortunately there is no technical information on these parts, and even engineers never repair them, so unless someone is an expert on electronics there’s nothing you can do other than check the wires and connections although it it probably more likely to be a component or circuit failure.

I figured as much. I watched a You tube video of a guy replacing the capacitors on a PCB because one of them was bulging but only at the top where it is crimped off to close the cylinder, it wasn't particularly bad or obvious but he checked the reading it was X amount of MFHD less than value printed on the side. I have a multimeter and a soldering iron but I have seen my solder remover or not do I have the right flux for removing old solder. Soldering components on a circuit board is only something I did for a project at college 30 years ago.

It sounds like it's terminal to me unfortunately 😕

Thanks for the reply r
