Indesit drying knob loose

Recommended Posts

Hi

The drying knob on our indesit IWDC6125 washer dryer is loose and not clicking. Now you cant stop the machine drying. I read online that you can easily take out the knob and replace it with another by clicking it in and that would be a fix. It was a parts shop though so not sure its accurate. Help appreciated many thanks.

Hello Rexer. I'm struggling to see how it could be anything to do with the actual control knob. This is because even if a control knob completely broke and you had no control over it, if you let the dryer cycle run its length it should still switch off and stop at the end. Then the dryer would never come back on again unless you altered the control. I'm assuming it's like a mechanical control?

Have you tried letting it run on the dryer cycle until it finishes? If it does finish and turn off then you know that the control has reset to off and you could replace the control knob knowing the exact position it needs to be fitted into. But if it never switches off, then presumably the dryer control itself is faulty.

Hi

sorry reading back my post I can see I didnt explain it well. So I can run a wash and dry fine but not a wash on its own. It always insists on drying after  a wash. When I put the dryer mechanical knob to the no dryer setting it ignores it. I think it us stuck on a dryer setting that I set just before the knob went loose.

thanks for replying

Hello Rexer. Thanks for the clarification. If the dryers control is stuck as you suspect, then if you put the washer dryer onto a drying only cycle it should run automatically start drying without you having to select any time? If it does then it sounds like it needs a new controller mechanism. But if it doesn't, then it's clearly not stuck in an on position? It sounds like a very strange fault. Are you 100% sure that it is doing a tumble dryer at the end of the cycle and not doing a crease save action which many washing machines do. That is, after the full spin, the drum will revolve back and forth every so often indefinitely to prevent creasing. This could very easily look like it is drying, but the difference would be that the fan motor that blows hot air through on the drying cycle would not be running.
