Alexander
I have a Whirlpool DLCE 91469 859234315010 Washing machine and seeing a leak I ordered a replacement drain pump as I thought the noise indicated the pump. On further testing I noticed the area around the water chamber (located back top right where the drain hose is connected to the house drainage) was wet. I have tightened and secured the drain hose but also noticed a small black rubber hose that leads from the top of the water chamber to the drum. What is the function of this hose? Is it some form of pressure release? I have searched but cannot see any comments on this. If this was disconnected (because I was testing I do not know if this had worked itself loose but after checking I put it back) could this cause a leak? Any help appreciated. Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted February 26, 2022 Root Admin Report Share Posted February 26, 2022 Hi. Is it a small plastic chamber with a small tube on top running up to the top of the washing machine? If that small tube is disconnected water will pour out if the plastic chamber and the washing machine will overfill or abort and display an error code. Need a repair or spare parts? Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted February 26, 2022 Root Admin Report Share Posted February 26, 2022 This explains how washing machines control water levels with pressure switch Need a repair or spare parts? Alexander
That was quick Andy .. thank you. I could find nothing on the internet related to the water chamber. yes .. a small black hose comes out of the top of the chamber and runs into the top of the drum. Because I removed the water chamber to check the connections I do not know if the hose going into the drum was originally connected...I suspect it was not so maybe it worked its way off the drum (vibration??) and probably the water leak source. All put back and now no leaks at first test this morning. Edited February 26, 2022 by Alexander Whitegoodshelp (Andy)
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted February 26, 2022 Root Admin Report Share Posted February 26, 2022 The small black pressure tubing is normally very tightly fitted with a clip. If it comes off it is catastrophic because in the past (before error codes and abort abilities) a washing machine would fill for ever with water constantly running into floor. I’ve never known one come off to be honest. Need a repair or spare parts? Book a Repair | Buy appliance spares (Cheapest prices guaranteed) Warning: Read this before attempting any diy repairs. Alexander
It does fit tightly on to the drum but I will now add a bead of silicon seal to hold it in place. I can see no clip or even a way to hold it in place so will try silicone. We are always learning and thank you for your help and advice.
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted February 26, 2022 Root Admin Report Share Posted February 26, 2022 If the tube is definitely long enough I used to cut off several mm to use fresh hose to push into the plastic spout. Bear in mind the tube needs to be long enough to not be under any pressure if the outer drum bangs and jumps around. Need a repair or spare parts? Alexander
Many thanks Andy ... yes enough slack to take the bangs and jumps and I am sure the silicone will hold it in place. Whitegoodshelp (Andy)
Alexander
2 washes completed and no leaks so now have a spare pump for the future. It was definitely the small tube pulling free of the drum. The original leak only occurred when the drain pump kicked in so still do not understand the role of the water chamber and this small hose back to the drum. Have appreciated your help.
