Detergent in the Drawer Or Drum?

Mr. Washerhelp!

So we don't spoil our detergent drawer and avoid the chore of cleaning it regularly, we have been adding powder to the drum directly. I have been told this is less effective than putting it in the drawer. We use the drawer only for Fabric Softener.

What is your opinion on this?
