John Lewis give 2 year guarantee on white goods appliances

Hi,

I need a new machine as my 23 year old Zanussi washer-drier has just given up the ghost..

I'm trying to find a current model that may have a decent service life; looking through many articles it appears all the cheaper makes now use sealed tubs and only some ranges of such makes as Bosch may still have serviceable bearings.

I have looked everywhere I can think of for info and tried to research spare parts, but I cannot find anyone listing either bearings or tub units for the WVG30461GB - most sites don't list any models starting WVG3.

Does anyone know if this model is serviceable, or can you recommend any other make/model of washer drier that is serviceable, without going above the £500 price range?

Thanks,

Robert.

This is the list of washing machines made with totally sealed tubs (outer drums) as supplied to me by a fellow engineer. Unfortunately that's a big percentage of available machines and it's several years old now. As they make them sealed for extra profit and or cheaper manufacturing costs it's hard to imagine any models not like this now apart from something like Miele.

All Hoover washing machines
All Candy washing machines
All Hotpoint washing machines
All Indesit washing machines
Bosch 'Classixx' range washing machines
Many makes sold at Argos
All makes sold at Asda
All Electrolux, Zanussi and the AEG Protex series have welded tubs.

Hi Andy,

thanks for that. I'd found your list via google, it's what brought me to this site!

That machine is a "Series 6" washer-drier according to the Bosch page, so apparently not a Classixx one; that's why I was hoping it was one with a proper drum.

Also, being a drier and possibly running at higher temperatures, I was not sure if they were using plastic tubs with this type of machine?

Yes they still use the same plastic tubs for washer dryers. I don't know of an up to date list but as I said before, if the reason they do it is to save money and make money I can't see why they would not do it on them all now.

OK, thanks.

I'll try and find a place with a decent price for the machine with a long extended warranty..
