Hotpoint WMXTF 842 Clicking noise

Recommended Posts

Hi I need help, I have a Hotpoint WMXTF842 washing machine which is about 4 months out of warranty. It clicks when spinning slowly then goes quiet on full spin. The noise can be re-created by rocking the drum laterally. I replaced the shocks with no cure. It only has 2 shocks and 2 springs. I have had Hotpoint machines for over 25 years and never encountered this. Any ideas anyone?

Hello Tony. I'm not sure if the clicking is related in any way to the washing machine not spinning. Especially if it can be replicated by rocking the drum which would indicate a mechanical or manual problem with the drum or cabinet. In my experience a clicking noise when you rock the drum can also be caused by wheels in the base of the machine or problems with the chassis if it isn't caused by the suspension.

I have looked at all the possible causes of a washing machine not carrying out the spin cycle in my help article here which you need to carefully go through to try and match up your problem with a potential fault. If it doesn't help though the best thing is to get an engineer out as this fault can have many causes. Washing machine not spinning

Cheers for your reply Andy, but the machine functions perfectly and it's quiet as a mouse with nothing inside. It seems to me that whatever I put in it causes the drum to move back and forth and this cause the clicking. I thought of replacing the springs but they don't appear to be broken, and at only 15 months old, should they need replacing? Is there only 2 springs on this model? It seems as though there should be something to restrict the lateral movement. Ps. whilst doing this the machine has no movement or vibration.

You need to disconnect the machine and taken the lid off so you can manually move the drum around to see if you can cause the clicking noise and locate what is causing it. Most washing machines have 2 or 3 damper legs and 2 springs under the lid holding the tub centrally in the cabinet.
