Hotpoint Motor

Recommended Posts

depends on the model and of course it can be done, I did mine. One tip would be to be very careful of the wiring. My motor was really wired for newer machines and the instructions stated to simply connect it as is into my older machine. I checked the wiring and it would likely have caught fire if I did that. I had to swap the wires around but it works brilliantly. Difficulty, well if you have any form of common sense, then it is really easy. You just unbolt the old motor, bolt the new one in place and adjust the belt tension. Then comes the wiring. The connector that you removed from the old motor, you can see which wires are for the tacho and the motor windings. Just make sure they will go to the same connections on the new motor. I had to cut 4 wires on mine and swap them around or 240v would have been issued to the tacho.

As Edd says it depends on the model. In theory it should be extremely simple because there are usually just three bolts holding a motor in place. Then there is the motor plug which simply unplugs. However there can be tricky ones to deal with. I fitted Hotpoint motors which were different to the ones being replaced. Some even needed rewiring however, instructions should always be included. I've even seen motors where the motor plug could easily be plugged in upside down which would not be good. A good design should make this impossible though. Have a look on 4washerhelp to see if you can find your motor, there may well be a photo, or there may be instructions or a review that says whether it is a direct swap or not.
