MikeRotherham
Hello, This is a question for Andy really but anyone please contribute. I changed the main bearing on my washing machine during Christmas week. When replacing the motor I carelessly snapped off the rear of the 3 lugs that hold the motor to the outer drum. Do you know of anywhere I could get an outer drum from? Would sticking the lug back on be any good? It does wash and spin but there is an increasingly loud noise at the fastest speed with a fairly heavy load. When this noise starts I stop the washer. What struck me when I was replacing the bearing, was how well made the machine was and how clean and free from limescale the innards were bearing in mind the machine is 11 years old in April. I'd really like to be able to fix rather get a new one if possible The washing machine is a Hotpoint Aquarius WMA56.. Regards Mike.
Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted February 3, 2015 Root Admin Report Share Posted February 3, 2015 Hi Mike, have you tried Ransom Spares site for appliance spares? If the drum is available as a spare it will be on there for sure. However, at 11 years old the chances are such a part would be obsolete, or extremely expensive. There is a lot of movement during spins with heavy load and the motor is likely to be flexing a lot. If it moves too much it will throw the belt off. I would recommend not allowing it to do the fast spins. Need a repair or spare parts? MikeRotherham
Hello Andy, Thanks for the reply. To date I switch the machine off when it starts the fastest speed although I have had a few light loads that have been fine all the way through the cycle. Since posting however,I have found that it is possible to buy just the rear of the drum complete with bearings, heater element and drum seal as a genuine Hotpoint spare part and have ordered it. With any luck it will do the job. This time though I will assemble the drum and motor out of the cabinet and get someone to help me lift in as one piece. Thanks again for your help it's most appreciated. Regards Mike.
