Belt Keeps Coming Off

Recommended Posts

Hi, I have an Indesit 1100 washing machine, I know very little about washing machines but can't really afford the massive call out charge, a while ago the belt came off, I had a look myself but couldn't work it out, someone we know came round, had a look and said the brushes need replacing, he did so and I had no problems, for a few days, I made a few attempts at getting the belt on, it kep falling off, I was eventually successful and had it going for about a month, I decided about a week ago since it was working I would put the back on, today the belt fell off again, I felt like kicking the damn thing, after three attempts at getting the belt to stay on it seems to be on.... for now, I noticed while watching the wheel that makes the belt go round that the wheel is jerking from left to right, has this anything to do with it, I did make a video but can't work out how to put it on here, thanks

Thanks for the reply, the pulley was loose, so I tightened it, started the washing machine, and the belt came off again, when I came back, the bolt holding the pulley was loose again, something is causing the bolt to come loose, does anyone know what could be causing this, and whether it's expensive to repair?

There should be something preventing the bolt coming loose. Either a locking tab or I've even known cases where they only used loctite. If the pulley is worn and yu can move it around a fair bit on the shaft then it's likely to work loose again eventually but if it's OK it might just need locking into place. It needs to be tight but if you over tighten it will sheer the bolt and you will have big problems. If you can't see a locking tab (sometimes it's a little tab that needs knocking up against one of the sides of the bolt) you could try using some loctite.

Thanks, looking at it, I think it's the pulley, but I think that's about £25 to replace, I have already spent about £22 on brushes, £15 on a drive belt and it was only a cheap washing machine, the seal on the door doesn't look great and it makes the towels smell like a choice of wet dogs or onions anyway so I think it's time for a new washer, just waiting for the new one to arrive in 4 days, it's safe to say I'm not going with Indesit, I went for a candy one because it was reduced to £220 by over £100 and I don't have to pay for 12 months, thanks a lot for the help though, it would have been most helpful if the washing machine was expensive enough to justify the repair costs, thanks again

  • 1 year later...

I changed carbon brushes on motor without taking of motor from place.

Then taightened screws, wear on belt and belt comes off all time when strats drainage on machine program.

It's means belt keeps coming off on high rpm.

Checked pulley no plays more than 1mm

On low rpm belt do mowing on side and stops 2mm behind edge of pulley.

It's impossible to change place of motor tokeep belt in middle of pulley.

Maybe anybody knows what I can do.
