AEG L87695WD Displays "1" then "0"

When I programme in a wash, dry or rinse cycle, it goes through the motions for just a few seconds then stops and displays a number 1 in the display. After a few seconds, the “1” changes to “0” and the door unlocks. No proper error code is displayed. Since the fault occurred, it has not gone away, i.e. it's NOT intermittent, so the machine is currently unusable. Any advice on this problem would be much appreciated - thanks in anticipation.
