Beko WMI71641 - won't do any programmes and error code E17

firstly thank you for this website.

I have a Beko WMI71641 that I have used for 2 years without any problems.

However, I placed 3 towels in the wash and did a cotton wash, simply with one washing tablet.

After a short while I found that the beko had stopped running and the door could be opened. I took the towels and and drained the water from the pump filter but since then any time I turn on the BEKO it shows 0:00 on the display whenever I select a programme. Upon pressing Start, it will revert the timer back to a cotton wash regardless of what programme is selected but it will never actually run a wash or lock the door.

I then held the start button while turning it on and it displayed the code E17 which indicated a too much foam issue but there does not appear to be any foam or issues in the drum at all. This issue has persisted for 5 days without any change.

The play button just repeatedly flashes on the panel.

Hello. This according to my information error code E17 on most Beko washing machines means that, "excessive foam from an incorrect detergent being used, a poor quality detergent been used, or from overdosing".

It also says it could take some time to clear, although obviously 5 days is more than long enough. Holding the start button for about 5 seconds will usually erase the error code from the memory. There is no guarantee that this error code is relevant to your current problem, though. Any error codes being recalled will be the last error code produced. Obviously, after a breakdown, it is assumed that it is the error code for this particular fault. But what if the current breakdown hasn't generated an error code, and the error code relating to over foaming is from a previous incident?

As you say, if there is no foam inside the drum, it's hard to imagine how it could trigger such an error code. If there is any water inside the machine, I would try to drain it away, as if the pressure switch is activated it can cause problems. If you haven't already I would also unplug the washing machine for several minutes just in case something resets. Although that is quite a long shot to be honest.

Is there a cancel program, or procedure to try? Usually when the washing machine appears to be functioning but it just will not actually start the main suspect is the door not closing properly all the door latch not activating the door lock, or the door lock being faulty. However, there are many people on this forum that have had the same symptoms and replace the door lock only to find it made no difference.

Hi Andy,

thanks for your quick response. I would agree with you that I think this error code is from a previous unrelated incident as the wash that caused failure was only running for 20ish minutes and when I found it there was no obvious signs of a problem.

Just to clarify something, when I found the machine not working, the door could be opened and after I removed the towels there was litres of water in the drum which I had to manually remove via the pump filter. Is this normal behaviour? As I would have expected the water to drain its self, even if there was an error??

I would be inclined to think there was a problem with the door mechanism but there is no error code to indicate this and I don't understand why the panel would stay at 0:00 when selecting programmes (odd behaviour as previously it would show the run time for the selected wash) and then default to 1:58 (a cotton wash which was last used) when I press start on any programme. Is this something you've experienced before during a door issue?

I've attempted resetting and unplugging etc via the manual but there has been no change.

Do you think it could be a PCB issue?

It sounds like it might have just died mid wash. Yes it could be a pcb fault but very difficult to find out because you can't test them. Diagnosis is done by process of elimination. It could also be a wiring or connection fault.
