Zanussi E52 Motor Tachometer Generator Fault

My washing machine is starting to fill but then stopping.

Error Code is 52.

I have tried replacing, tacho, carbon brushes, motor but none seem to remove the code.

All wiring looks to be intact.

Is there anything else I can try?

Hello there. This error code means that the washing machine software is not receiving a signal from the motor Tacho coil. This fault is usually only reserved for when the washing machine otherwise believes the rest of the motor is working okay. There would be separate error codes for the carbon brushes, or maybe an open circuit motor.

So this fault typically occurs when the motor is actually running. In other words, the motor is running, but the software believes that it is not running. This is because it relies on the Tacho coil and Tacho magnet to tell when the motor is running.

How do I go about investigating 4?

The only other thing that you could check is that there is not a connection issue between the main PCB and the tacho coil on the motor. You would need to trace the 2 thin wires from the motor connector that connect to the tacho coil back to the connector that connects to the main PCB. Obviously, the motor plug needs to remain connected.

Then you have to use a continuity test meter to test down one of the wires, all the way back to the motor, through the tacho coil, and back to the PCB connector. The tacho coil has a very high resistance, but you should get a reading. If you have an analogue multimeter, then when you touch and un-touch one of the connectors, you should see the needle moving back and forth.

If you can detect that there is no break in the wires, and no problems with the connectors and pins in both the motor plug and the PCB connector, then there's nothing left to check. Obviously, you would suspect a problem with the PCB itself. But this would be a gamble. It could fix the issue, but you could also just have a freak fault somewhere, or something that you have not checked properly, and fitting an expensive PCB could leave you with the same fault.

In the end resorted to a visiting repair engineer who replaced the carbon brushes and cleaned the motor armature. It all seems to be working fine now.

Thanks for the update. It’s unusual for an error code saying it’s not receiving a signal from the tachometer coil to be caused by carbon brushes. They normally can detect a motor is open circuit and only mention tacho coil in circumstances I described. Zanussi must do it differently at least with this model.
