Hi,

My Candy Alise washer dryer has stopped spinning. It works fine when empty and have tried with a couple of light dry items and still fine. When I add anything wet and with weight it will not go into spin mode. Does anybody have a clue as to what might be happening. There are no error codes btw.

Hello Gareth. If a motor struggles to turn with a weight of laundry inside the drum it can be caused if the carbon brushes are worn down and hardly making contact. This would normally result in hearing some sort of greeting, crackling sound as it causes the carbon brushes to sparking flash. Not all modern washing machines have carbon brushes fitted though these days.

Another possible cause, although much rarer, is if the drive belt is very slack. This would normally cause the motor to turn at its normal speed but just slip inside the drive belt. It should be fairly obvious looking at the motor, drive belt and drum as they turn.

This fault can also be caused by a fault in the PCB somewhere, possibly a component fault. That is much harder to diagnose and potentially expensive to replace the PCB as domestic appliance whitegoodshelp is unused do not repair PCBs. Finally could because by a poor connection nor to the motor somewhere but again, that is quite unusual.

Having said all that, if you are only putting in a few items, and particularly one or more of those items are cotton or jeans, and especially with a large drum capacity, it could be that it cannot balance the laundry and therefore refuses to spin. As described here - wont spin with just one item inside or a small load

This article may have useful advice in too washing machine drum is not turning around
