Hi,

I have an Indesit BWE91683 and for the last couple of days it has stopped spinning at high speed. If I put it on the spin cycle it starts to turn the drum, but only slowly. It changes direction but never speeds up. Also the counter does not start counting down. It does seem to initially rotate the drum faster,  then seems to hesitate and slow back down.

The machine runs wash cycles fine, its just the spin cycle which has the issue.

I thought is might be motor brushes, but have been unable to find any for the machine so assume its a brushless motor.

Does anyone have any ideas what the issue could be?

Many thanks,

Callum

It could be several things. How old is it?

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply. Its about 4 years old. It has been spinning a few times over that last week but is very hit and miss if it will start.

Many thanks

Hi. The reason I asked about age is because some faults are more likely on an older machine. One of the first suspects is a blocked pressure system which tends to happen more on older washing machines. Yours is sort of in between.

Not going into a fast spin, in other words the motor and drum turn okay on wash at the beginning of the spin cycle but it doesn't actually kick into a proper spin can be caused by many different things ranging from simple to serious. I have them all listed in my article here - why is my washing machine not spinning at end of cycle

If it's intermittent then it's even harder to solve. It could be dodgy connection somewhere, or it could even be a pressure system blockage especially if you use mostly liquid detergent and or low temperature wash cycles.
