Washing machine just died in middle of wash

I have a Miele washing machine which just died in the middle of a wash. I drained it myself (there was not much water) and opened the door automatically. But now I would like to find out what has happened and, if possible, to fix it myself.

There was no noise to suggest something was amiss (it is a quiet machine in general) and I just spotted it was off completely when I passed by it 15 minutes before the end of the 2-hour cycle. It did not blow a fuse and there is nothing up with the plug.

I just thought I would post this here any case anyone has any experience of this or suggestions as to what might have happened.
