I am having to move the outlet drain hose every time we use the washing machine. In order to fill for wash I have to make sure the hose is high but to drain the water I have to lower the hose. The machine works when I do these tasks but it is a lot of fiddling about, is there any permanent solution?

Thanks

If the washing machine is siphoning, then water going into the machine will siphon straight down the drain as fast as it can fill. The washing machine will get stuck on a fill position. This is caused when the drain hose is pushed too far down the waste pipe, or the waste pipe is just fitted too low. Siphoning on washing machines is explained here - Washing machine constantly fills with water and goes down the drain

The other problem you mention is caused by the washing machine not emptying the water fast enough, and is totally separate. If you are having to get the water out by dropping the drain hose really low (forcing siphoning) then the pump either isn't working or it's got a blockage or obstruction in it (or in the sump hose leading to it or even in the drain hose)
