Hello! I've decided to replace the noisey bearings on my Miele Washing machine. I reckon it must be about 25 years old so the drum was seriously stuck. However I have managed to pull the spider off and finally the remaining large bearing which left a rusty mess. See photo. My question is is this mess the remains of a washer or something? So how many components are there in the shaft system and what order are they in? There seems to be a big seal on the back of the tub, then the smaller bearing seal and then this washer perhaps. Thanks in advance and for taking the time to read this!

Hi. There’s normally two drum bearings and a seal or counter face on the base of the drum shaft and a big seal that stops water getting to the front drum bearing.

Thanks for your reply, it's just that I've noticed this spring disc included in some bearing kits. Do you think that this is the remains of it?

You need some form of (often) ceramic disk at the base of the drum shaft. This then fits against the face of the main drum seal when assembled.

Thanks George. Are you able to buy all the parts with it being so old?

I think there are parts available obviously the Miele branded ones are a bit expensive, a decidedly unfunny £200 for a bearing kit...

I guess it's not totally about saving money as I'm sure I'll end up spending more than a cheap 2nd hand washing machine. But it's keeping this quite impressive piece of domestic engineering going. I did think about getting rid of my old stuff and buying an Ebac and giving them a chance. Maybe some day. Included a pic of the double pulling rig I ended up with to pull the spider for general amusement 👍

I’m not surprised at the price. It’s ludicrous. At that price I’d expect a new drum shaft at least.

You can usually get bearings from a bearing company but you must have the proper seals or there’s no point fitting new bearings.
