Hi to all on here!

I found this site by chance, lets see if I can find some answers!

I have an issue with a Hotpoint Aquarius 8640 washer dryer. It seems to make a clanking, knocking noise while operating as of late, naturally this is worse during the spin cycle.

I have taken the top/back covers off and looked inside.  On inspection nothing broken or out of shape, all seems to be as it should be.

The rear of the drum seems to have a lot of excess movement, like it is flopping around, forward and backwards and up and down.

My guess is the gas struts at the bottom are worn giving excessive movement ? They look like oil is weeping from them.

Also ...

The springs that hold the drum could also be a contributing factor if they are stretched out?

I have taken pics of all the bits

Cheers for looking

Tim

Hello Tim. If the suspension dampers are still holding the drum centrally in its casing and you can bounce the drum up and down and it springs back into place and they should be okay. I'm afraid with noises you have to locate them with eyes and ears. You have to bounce the drum around and shake and move the casing to see if you can replicate any noise and find out where it's coming from. If that doesn't work you have to put a load of washing on the drum and put it onto spin and then literally observe where any noise is coming from. If you suspect anyway unplug the machine and investigate. You are looking for things that are loose. These articles will help Washing machine noises | Part two of noisy washing machine
