How to sort machine skipping cycles on a 15 year old Beko

Last posted about this at start of year, it does work as a machine just not sure how long the issue has been around for, it may of been years as I normally just set it and wait.

No issues with heating water or anything but if I set machine to option 1 it starts and then after a few minutes goes to the end of option 4 which is just before rinse cycle which is 5, it runs for a hour then when "rinse" cycle starts I don't think its actually on rinse as it almost instantly goes to next to the main rinse and if at this point I open machine (after putting dial to end of cycle) the machine is so hot theres boiling hot steam coming off and the water is scalding hot.

Its the same for the other options i.e synthetic or woolen it goes to a later/final main one before the rinse cycle.

Its the same if a full load is in or its near empty.

I have been debating getting a new machine but may just wait until this one dies, but would be nice to have cycles that work!

Hello there. If your washing machine has an old-fashioned control dial that you turn around, could it be cracked or have moved out of sync and be selecting the wrong programs? This used to be a fairly common problem. To check for that though it is easy because just put it on a spin cycle and of course it should spin then when it is finished the spin cycle and switched off the control knob should be pointing to an off position. If it isn't that then something is seriously gone wrong with the programming somewhere and I don't think it's something you can easily fix yourself.

I did remove the panel just in case at start of year assuming it was just needing a bit of maintenance and put WD40 in after removing and putting the dial back on, didn't do any difference.

If I put it on a spin or drain cycle it does it correct and stops at correct position, and yes its a dial.

No cracks on the dial just a lot of rust on the metal of the machine itself,
