Beko WTB104R2A refusing to spin

Hello everyone,

I'm at my witts end with this problem and have come to the conclusion... I need help with this one.

The problem I am having is = The drum won't spin.

Events leading up to the failure= Spinning absolutely fine, then a loud decreasing whining (like a turbine failing) then no function of the motor.

Explanation of what the machine is doing after the event= The machine turns on and I can set the program that I want it to run absolutely fine, it will begin the cycle that I have set, the machine will start pumping in water and the extraction pump will kick in to remove any waste water sitting in the pipe. After this it does nothing, no spin or anything. When I put it on a spin and drain it will drain the water that I put in the drum from the previous setting and then it will do nothing for two minutes and it will then try and drain the water again. I should also note that the motor doesn't even kick in, no electrical noises or anything.

It appears that the program is running the cycle as it should but with no spin function.

What I have tried so far= I have changed the motor, I have changed the water pump, cleared the drum, inspected for blockages (including removing the element) and taking all extraction pipes off for inspection. I have taken the belt off and spun the machine to check the bearings which are all good.

Now I am out of ideas... is there some kind of reset that I'm missing, or is it PCB or motherboard?

Hi. If the drum (motor) doesn’t turn at all it could be many different things including something as trivial as a bad connection. This article gives more ideas but it’s not a detailed description of how to find a fault but more of a list of possible faults and suggestions drum not turning on wash or spin

Replacing a motor or any part in the hope it will fix a fault is always a big gamble.

I replaced the motor because it was stiff and jittery, not a smooth rotation like a motor should be, I put that together with the noise the machine made when it failed.

Unfortunately I may have to pull the plug on it.

Ok mate. It’s unlucky that it didn’t cure all faults. I get a lot of people guessing at parts and it’s such a shame when they spend a lot of money and it doesn’t work. I was worried you might be tempted to gamble on a new PCB too which would be another big gamble. Hopefully my article might be a bit of help.

Just wanted to add a few more of my findings just to see what you think.

 

I have since looked for any connection issues, from the pcb to the motherboard and the door latch. The door latch I took apart and physically locked the contact so it has a circuit. Again the machine will carry on filling up with water and extracts the waste but still doesn't spin.

I also removed the motherboard to the exterior of the machine to see if there is any life from the board (the motor is wired into the board) when the machine starts it's cycle, fills with water and extracts the waste the motherboard clicks then does nothing.

From what I can gather that would indicate the pcb is communicating with the motherboard but the motherboard isn't allowing a current to the motor.

what's your opinion on this?

Hello there. If the motor tests okay, that is continuity across all the appropriate pins showing that the field coils, Tacho coil, and carbon brushes/armature are all okay and there is no connection faults such as between the motor plug and motor connector or between any of the wires to the motor and back to the PCB then generally speaking a fault on the PCB is the main suspect. It's just very risky buying a new PCB without being certain it is that. Unfortunately as the PCBs can't be tested the only way to test is to fit a different one.
