Mielie Novatronic W853 - bearings

fairly certain bearings have gone - any advice on how to do this/is it easy-difficult would be appreciated as I can not find any info on the internet. I always repair my own vehicles so fairly competent diyer. The rest of the machine is in excellant order and thowing away a well built quite expensive machine would not be agreeable - but as i can find no info on how to do this i might just have to play it by ear!

Hello there. Sadly the prices of some Miele washing machine spares is laughable if it wasn't so serious. The motor for example is over £500. I would check on the Miele web site to see if the parts are available and how much. You would also need a tub seal and the seal that protects the bearings from water.

my reply did not seem to get through - The miele kit is nearly £200!!!!!!! - i have found an aftermarket kit that they claim is high quality(for about £18) - I buy bearings from a local specialist and they are high quality and not expensive - so how miele can charge this sum is beyond belief given the machines are not cheap to start with. so i will have a go but any info on the process would be good - i have replaced the shock absorbers so know how to get the front off and the lid - i presume the drum has to come out through the top?

any info in next few days would be good as we need the washer working

You can't replace the drum bearings without replacing the drum bearing seal? I believe Miele call it an oil seal. BTW is that the price on the Miele web site? I've seen a lot of third party spares sites selling Mile spares at very inflated prices, presumably because they couldn't get a discount from Miele.

Wow, I can't imagine two bearings and a vital seal for £18 as a substitute for £200 parts being much good even accounting for the vast overpricing of the genuine part. Did you check the genuine price with Miele?

i know what you are saying, but when i buy car bearings from my local specialist they are under a tenner and are the best quality. Given that spending £200 on an oldish machine doesn't make sense to me (may as well put it towards a new machine). i will have to give it a go or scrap a perfectly good machine -  (in the uk white goods blurb they state that there are cheap parts about but they source decent stuff.  i would prefer to try and repair it as with anything, i don't like scapping things.

hi Andy well, bought aftermarket bearings, this was a difficult job - as the case is solid the drum has to come out of the top, which means everything out then machine on its side to drag drum(very heavy) out on a board. time 8 hrs including fitting bearings. reasemble 5 hrs.start the machine even more noisy. i then took it out again and this time split the inner and outer drum - the spider riveted to the drum was corroded and split on all 3 sides (new machine ordered). over the last 6months i have replaced the door rubber(started to shred), the dampers as the machine was vibrating and finally the bearings! i cannot be sure but i supect that all these were related to the spider breaking down/collapsing. i wrote down a blow by blow list of taking the machine apart if anyone wants help with how you dismantle please ask

Thanks for the update. Yes I never recommend people trying to replace their own drum bearings. It's just such a big job and fraught with complications. It's too late now but to check if one of the drum spider arms is cracked or broken you can lift the drum at the 6 O'clock position where it meets the door seal and turn the drum all around the clock whilst checking to see if there is any movement at specific points. If there is a crack or break it should have excess play at the point where it's cracked.
