LG washing machine , power but nothing else

PLEASE Help, I was trying to find the source of a noise in my old but reliable LG machine and took out the heating element to look under the drum for anything , found nothing , replaced the element but now the machine does not work, there is power as it bleeps once when I click the switch on the wall socket and a red light on the circuit board but no lights or anything else, what have I done ???

Unfortunately removing the heating element is definitely not advised unless you are replacing with a new one. The way heating elements are held in place inside a washing machine is by tightening the nut down which draws in a metal plate. This metal plate then squashes the rubber seal causing it to be held in place and be watertight. Quite often this rubber seal will then become bulbous and out of shape which means it can be difficult to get out but more importantly it will not fit back in place because it is much fatter than when new.

If you have got it back in okay and put the wires back properly and obviously it should work as it did before. The only thing I can suggest is that you double check the wiring to the heating element. On some washing machines and open circuit heating element can cause the entire machine to go dead apart from the lights. After that it could be anything that has been caught damaged or disturbed.

Hi Andy,

Thanks for the reply, I think I've sorted it, i had taken the plastic fascia off the front to clean it and I noticed the timer button was caught on the edge and stuck pressed on , after re setting the fascia the machine now works, so just need to check there are no leaks regarding the element. Thanks again

Can I be a nuisence  again, the machine does not leak after my messing with the element but the original noise I was hunting for seems to be from the belt on the wheel ,it does not happen on spin, only on normal wash mode, , thanks

What kind of noise is it?

A metallic clanging sound, if I tap  the metal wheel the belt goes around its hat sound

Ok I found the exact noise on a you tube video, according to them it's a worn or missaligned belt , they rubbed a candle on  the belt, and it stopped the noise , should I just get a new belt lol

A metallic clanging sound could be the shaft of the motor scraping on the back panel and a badly designed washing machine with not enough clearance. Overloading the machine can cause that to happen to, as well as one suspension. A worn or misaligned belt can't cause metallic sound. They are made of rubber, they can squeak or creak normally.
