Problems with Smart Feature on Hotpoint

Currently have a Hotpoint WMFUG 742. I noticed that immediately after an auto clean wash, that during a washing cycle (close to the end), the auto light came on (set by using Smart button for some washes) and the time to end went back 30 mins. However, the Smart feature was not applicable to the cycle I was using. Moreover it kept nearing end but continually the wash was extended. The only way I could get to end was to stop and put on spin and pump out. Tried running another auto clean and that was fine, but not tried a new ordinary cycle yet.
