Zanussi ZWD12270W heater element replacement

Hi all,

Hoping someone can help me out here, I have above washer dryer, got the error code ED4 so I bought the replacement part, a new heater element, however after taking the top off the machine I cannot work out how to get the old one out. 

The metal support going all the way along the top of the machine seems to be stopping me from removing the element housing, but the support seems to be attatched to two springs which will not budge. I'm hoping there is a way I can remove the housing without taking that metal support off. 

I'll add photos tonight if needed.

With some Zanussi washing machines you have to take off the entire casing to get to some parts.
