Hidy. Examining door lock problem yesterday, wiring connector from lock badly scorched, so decided to replace wiring as well. Pulled out machine a bit. 4 screws in top and, unbelievably, a rivet directly above the dispenser drawer. (I assume two more screws at the rear.) The machine is fitted, and the top is a single piece of galvanised steel.

I am going to drill the rivet out; I won't be denied access, but just wondering if anyone got any warnings, or if anyone come across such stupidity before, and why they think this was done. Why would a rivet be placed in a lid that was otherwise held on by normal cross-head screws? My gast was truly flabbered. Never seen this before ever. Usual procedure nowadays to use specialist screw\bolt heads.

Electrolux EWX 14440W Washer/dryer.

Cheers.

I've not heard of any washing machine where the lid doesn't come off by undoing screws at the back and then pushing it forwards or backwards (usually backwards). They usually have a part the slides and locks at the front or in the middle and sometimes you have to knock it reasonably hard to slide the lid back and then lift off.
