Hi had this machine just over a month. I reported the problem and a Hotpoint repair guy came out, but couldn't/wouldn't understand the problem. He left after 10 minutes having decided the routing of the discharge hose wasn't quite right.

I've taken a timelapse video now of what happens and booked a new repair. Hopefully will get something positively sorted now.

The problem is that the predicted time is way off what it actually is, and the time left changes a few times during the whole cycle. Some programs take longer and others shorter, but always the same- so ruling out variations due to load/temperatrue etc.

I saw a similar problem mentioned for a Miele machine, but the comments suggest such behaviour is normal.

If you are interested here is a link to the video (which runs for about 30 secs):

(In summary for the particular the program recorded it runs for about 50 minutes and then the time left jumps down by 50 minutes. As the time left further reduces to zero it then jumps back 20 minutes)

Anyone got any views on how best to push Hotpoint to resolve this - especially if this is a design issue?

Hello. I can't rule out a fault, but fluctuations and adjustments of time is very normal. They are always only estimates, the temperature of the water coming into the machine, the water pressure, and how balanced the laundry is can all affect the final time and presumably also the level of the soiling on some machines may also affect time if it is fitted with sensors that can sense the level of dirt and / or soap in the water. If the load can't be balanced properly - especially at the final spin - the machine can struggle to balance the load and jump back to the beginning of the spin cycle if it times out without successfully balancing it and doing a proper spin.
