Hi I have a Indesit Innex washing machine that has a pitifully slow spins peed on short washes. Is is possible to fit a new switch/dial that you can by pass the set spin speed and set a higher speed or is it all in a chip and cannot be altered?

It's not possible to alter anything like that. It's all controlled by software, you need to chose a different wash cycle that has a faster spin. Short washes are designed for specific items that don't need spinning fast. Look in the instruction book to see if you can use option buttons to reduce time a little but at the end of the day if you want clean ;laundry and a clean washing machine you need to use normal wash cycles that take longer. Constantly using short washes will eventually ruin the machine due to a big build up of slime and gunge.

Thank you for the reply, I thought that this might be the case, but sometimes you may want to wash something that does not need a long wash, but does need a fast spin to remove the water.

Hi, that's where the option buttons come in if you have the right washing machine, you can select a 40 degree cotton wash and reduce the temperature, spin speed and even amount of water it uses or how many rinses it does etc. Check out what each option button does. Bear in mind though that the more you reduce the time the more the washing machine will probably develop grease and gunge inside which usually shortens its life. Wash cycles are long because the modern washing machine is designed to use less electricity and water and longer wash times are needed to still wash properly. Quick wash cycles are very popular but they are designed for very lightly soiled laundry only - items that may for example have been worn not next to the skin for an afternoon or an evening with no stains on them.

Most washing machines should have option buttons for various things although probably only higher spec models have ones for reducing temperatures and spin speeds. The thing to realise is that if a wash cycle only has a short spin speed then it is not designed to wash cottons or normal washing. Short spin speeds are designed to protect delicate fabrics, or because the wash cycle is for a fabric that only needs a slow spin. Therefore if you are washing things like cottons, jeans, towels, bedding etc on a wash cycle that doesn't spin fast enough it's the wrong wash cycle.
