John Lewis give 2 year guarantee on white goods appliances

Well, even though it is working just fine, we have decided to ditch the WM62 and give it to my youngest son and buy a new machine. I am stuck at making any decision. A lady I know told my daughter "i swear by indesit, had mine 5 years now". That can obviously speak for itself, 5 years is well out of date and anything could have happened to indesit by now. I remember the old zanussi days, very good machine but have no idea what they are like now. Money no object, just want a long uninterrupted service time. Any ideas PLEASE

Yes Edd, past performance is a very unreliable way of making purchasing decisions though perfectly understandable. AEG and Bosch for example used to be extremely well built, but now they have been bought by another company and dropped down into budget and mid-price ranges - not a patch on the old ones. There is a common trend for brands to be bought out and completely changed but the name remains. With car manufacturers it happened in reverse to Skoda (unusually), where they hadn't got a great reputation but were bought out by Volkswagen and turned into a respectable brand. Things change.

Surely Miele's the best and although more expensive u can get a ten year warranty on some models. You'd end up spending more on machines and repairs in that time. Whack it an 0% credit card for purchases over as long as possible and spread it over the term 2 years or whatever

Yes, I cannot overstate how much better a Miele washing machine is to everybody else's. A Miele washing machine is currently very close to the build quality of washing machines from 20 or 30 years back. The rest are just playing at it in comparison. Buying a Miele is not a panacea because they are much more expensive, and if they do need repairs in the future they can be very expensive too. However, I have had a Miele washing machine for the last 8 years and it still sounds and performs as new, it has never given a single problem, and I still expect it to last at least another 8 years. If you want a proper washing machine you have to go Miele. If you don't want to invest that kind of money then fair enough, that seems to be the majority of people. In such a case there's not a lot of difference between the rest in my opinion.

Good point. We are in the position that we don't have room in our house for a dryer so need a washer dryer. Downside is Miele only provide 2 years warranty with these even though the cost is so much higher. Whereas some of there washers come with a 10 year warranty which at around 800 quid for one of these models is not be sniffed at. The cost of the warranty plus a cheap washer would amount to more than this.

I guess with Miele you will get reliability as I Know from my experience with Bosch an engineer will come out say in 2-3days to say oh yes needs a part ordering from Germany And then u have to wait another few weeks before you actually get it repaired.

Personally I'd pay the extra for a Miele to take the stress from the wife if dirty laundry piling up. Happy wife = happy husband!
