raylett
Hi there, My AEG washing machine has just finally given up on me – we are ready to say goodbye to it as it also sounds like Concorde as the bearings are starting to go. We have been told that AEG are not what they used to be and so after listening to a friend's Miele (or rather struggling to - as it was so quiet) we decided to opt for one. We don't mind spending a bit as we have seen over the last 13 years the benefits of buying the best (at the time according to Which our AEG was!). My mother-in-law buys cheap and has been thru 4 in the time that we have had the AEG - that speaks volumes. My question is – are all Miele quiet or is there one particular model that is better than most? It is vital we get this right as we are now open-plan living with the kitchen/utility room. Root Admin Whitegoodshelp (Andy) Posted August 6, 2006 Root Admin Report Share Posted August 6, 2006 Hello Becca. It’s possible there is a small difference between certain models, but I would expect all Miele washing machines should be quiet. AEG are still a decent washing machine, but as with some other washing machine makes, quality may be being slowly reduced to keep the washing machines competitively priced and some of their cheaper models may be noisier. One very useful feature of the price comparison site Kelkoo, is that you can compare washing machines not only by price, but by other criteria including noise levels. However, noise levels (in decibels) aren’t yet widely boasted about, so only a small quantity of washing machines turn up on a search at this time. However, it’s enough to get a good idea, and as you’d expect, a Miele washing machine is the quietist result at 44dB (the loudest being a Tecnik at 77dB). Washing machines can be grouped in the following loudness categories 40–50 dB, 50-60 dB, 60-70 dB and 70-80 dB. One thing that is surprising, is the wide variance in noise levels between the same make of washing machine. Some makes appear in several different noise bands. There are some AEG washing machines that are almost as quiet as the Miele washing machine, although the prices of these AEG washing machines are similarly expensive. Need a repair or spare parts?
