Aeg 12843 Vit Washer/dryer: No Lights/control

Hi

I've a 2 and a half year old AEG12843VIT washer dryer which has now stopped working with the following symptons:

• No lights on control panel
• No responce from buttons on control panel
• LCD display as no digits
• The above occurs when the control dial is off or switched to a programme.
• If the control dial is switched to a programme, then off then back to a programme the LCD illuminates...but again no digits in it.

The problem occured suddenly...went from working fine to no responce as above on next wash.

Have tried turning off, leaving off (time varying between 20 minutes and 24 hours) and then trying again. Using this I got it to work again for a couple of washes...but no longer getting it to do this even.

Given I can get the LCD backlight to come on I'm assuming it's not a plug/fuse issue.

I'd be very grateful for thoughts as to what might have happened. Currently weighing up repair/replace or SOGA (warrenty was 2 years).

Yes the fact that the LCD will occasionally illuminate discounts several things including faulty socket, blown fuse. After those, the suspected causes of a dead washing machine fall on the door interlock and even the on off switch. It could be a problem with the main PCB. It's not going to be easy to diagnose so I'd think about getting an engineer to look at it. Check this article - washing machine won't start but if it doesn't help I advise getting an engineer rather than guessing at parts.
