Why won't washer dryer do just a drying cycle?

I've had people with this issue before and it seems like some are designed so you can't just use the dryer. I think the last one was an LG model too. If you can use the dryer separately it should be mentioned in the instruction manual.

When washer dryers first came out, you could always use the dryer separately because they all had a separate program and controllers for tumble dry. These days most washers are controlled by software, and they may have been designed to only work after a wash cycle.

The only reason I can think of this would be if they didn't want you to try to tumble dry sopping wet laundry that had been washed by hand, and had not been properly spun. This makes sense because a washer dryer would really struggle to dry anything that hadn't been spun properly.

You could try putting them on a spin only cycle first, or a rinse and spin cycle.
